This Part of GB/T 230 specifies the principle, symbols and description, test equipment, test piece, test procedures, uncertainty of results and test report of Rockwell hardness and Rockwell superficial hardness test for metallic materials.
Attention is drawn to the fact that, spherical hard alloy indenters are considered to be the standard type of Rockwell hardness indenters. Steel ball indenters may be used if specified in a product standard or agreement.
Note 1: attention is drawn to the fact that results obtained with two kinds of balls for the hardness test can be different. For specific materials and/or products, other standards apply.
Note 2: for certain materials, the application scope may be narrower than those specified.
