3 Terms and Definitions
A series of national standards converted by GHS (GB 20576~GB 20599, GB 20601 and GB 20602) and the following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard.
3.1
Chemical identity
It refers to the name uniquely identifying a kind of chemical. This name may be the name meeting the denomination system of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) or Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), and it is also a kind of technical name.
3.2
Compressed gas
It is a kind of fully gaseous gas during pressurized package under -50℃, including all gases with critical temperature ≤-50℃.
3.3
Flash point
It refers to the minimum temperature applying some ignition source to cause liquid vaporization and ignition under the specified test conditions (calibrated to standard atmosphere pressure 101.3kPa).
3.4
Hazard category
The standard classification in each hazard class, such as oral acute toxicity, covers five hazard categories, but the standard classification of flammable liquids covers four hazard categories. These hazard categories will be compared with the hazard severity in one hazard class, and they shall not be compared with relatively general hazard category.
3.5
Hazard class
The hazard class refers to the character of physics, health or environmental hazard, such as flammable solids, carcinogenicity and oral acute toxicity.
3.6
Hazard statement
It refers to the statement for some hazard class or category, which states the hazard character of a kind of hazardous product and also states the hazard level under adequate condition.
3.7
Initial boiling point
It refers to the temperature of the first bubble appearance when the steam pressure of a kind of liquid is equal to the standard pressure (101.3kPa).
3.8
Label
It refers to s set of proper written, printed or graphical information elements of a kind of hazardous product, which are selected owing to the relation with target department and attached or printed on the direct vessel or external package of a kind of hazardous product.
3.9
Label element
It refers to a kind of unified information for label, such as pictogram and signal word.
3.10
Recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods, model regulations
It refers to the formally published word material which is approved by United Nations Economic and Trade Board and takes "Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" of the recommendation attachment of United Nations on the transport of dangerous goods as the subject.
3.11
Pictogram
It refers to a kind of graphic structure, which may include one symbol plus other graphic elements, such as boundary, background pattern or color with the view of delivering the specific information.
3.12
Precautionary statement
It refers to state the measures to be recommended with one phrase and (or) pictogram to minimize or prevent unfavorable effect caused by contacting some hazardous substance or improper storage or handling.
3.13
Product identifier
It refers to the name or serial number used for hazardous product in labels or safety data sheet. It provides a kind of unique means to make the product user identify this substance or mixture under specified application background, such as at transport, consumption or in work locations.
3.14
Signal word
It refers to the word indicating the relative severity of hazard in the labels and reminding the reader noticing the potential hazard. GHS uses "hazard" and "warning" as the signal word.
3.15
Symbol
It refers to the graphic elements to concisely transfer the information.
4 Classification
4.1 Physical and chemical hazard
4.1.1 Explosive substances
The classification, caution labels and caution statement of explosive substances are detailed in GB 20576.
