QB/T 2002 consists of the following two parts under the general title Hardware fitting of leather products:
——Specification of electroplated layer;
——Specification of sprayed coating.
This is Part 1 of QB/T 2002.
This part is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This part is a revision of QB/T 2002.1-1994 Technical conditions of electroplated layer of leather hardware fittings.
In addition to a number of editorial changes, the following technical changes have been made with respect to QB/T 2002.1-1994:
——The non-dedicated items in the original "Terms" are deleted and some specialized “terms and definitions” are added and detailed;
——“Classification of plating types” is deleted;
——“Appearance quality” requirements are modified;
——“Varnish hardness” requirements are deleted;
——“Corrosion resistance” requirements are modified;
——Test methods for “bonding strength of electroplated layer”, “varnish adhesion” and “corrosion resistance” are optimized;
——“Inspection rules” is are detailed.
This part was proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This part is under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Leather of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 252).
This part replaces the former professional standard QB/T 2002.1-1994 Technical conditions of electroplated layer of leather hardware fittings, which is abolished from the implementation date of this part.
The previous edition of this part is as follows:
——QB/T 2002.1-1994.
Hardware fitting of leather products - Specification of electroplated layer
1 Scope
This part of QB/T 2002 specifies terms and definitions, requirements, test methods and inspection rules for electroplated layer of hardware fitting of leather products.
It applies to the electroplated layer of various hardware fittings of leather products and may be referenced by the electroplated layer of other base materials.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

QB/T 3826 Corrosion-resistant testing method of the metal deposits and conversion coatings for the light industrial products neutral salt spraying test (NSS)
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this part, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
varnish
solid continuous film for protecting the plating layer formed by applying lacquer to the surface of the plating layer
3.2
pockmark
small pits or small holes formed on the surface of the metal under the action of electroplating or corrosion
3.3
peel
breaking or falling off of the surface plating layer
3.4
peeling
phenomenon that the plating layer is separated from the base material in sheets
3.5
sagging
traces of lacquer flowing down in the varnish applied to the surface of the plating layer
3.6
seediness
phenomenon that varnish surface is rough and has particulate impurities
3.7
orange peel
corrugated surface treatment layer similar to orange peel
4 Requirements
4.1 Appearance quality
4.1.1 The surface color is uniform, and there is no obvious color difference at the same part (except for special-style plating layer such as antique brass).
4.1.2 The surface of plating layer shall be free of obvious pinhole, discoloration, pockmark, peel, burning, peeling, blistering, skip plating or serious mechanical damage.
4.1.3 The varnish shall be transparent and uniform, without sagging, seediness, orange peel, blister or obvious scratch.
4.1.4 Pattern and characters are clear.
4.2 Bonding strength of electroplated layer
The plating layer is free from lifting up and shedding.
4.3 Varnish adhesion
The varnish is shedding-free.
4.4 Corrosion resistance
The number of corrosion spots shall not exceed 3, and the area of a single corrosion spot shall not be greater than 1mm2.
5 Test methods
5.1 Appearance quality
Conduct visual inspection in case of good light.
5.2 Bonding strength of electroplated layer
Inspect according to the scratch method specified in QB/T 3821-1999, 2.3.
5.3 Varnish adhesion
Make 6 passes of about 5mm-long parallel scratches, at an interval of 1mm, on the surface of varnish with a stylus or steel needle with curvature of 0.013mm~0.018mm in the direction perpendicular to the length of sample. The stylus or steel needle shall pass through the entire depth of the varnish. Then make 3 passes of about 8mm-long scratches, at an interval of 1mm, in the direction perpendicular to the previous 6 scratches to form 10 small squares. Gently touch with hands and observe the shedding situation of varnish.
