This standard supersedes "Hygienic Standard for Enamel as Food Containers" (GB 4804-1984).
Compared with GB 4804-1984, the main changes in this standard are as follows:
- The standard name is revised as "National Food Safety Standard - Enamelware";
- Terms and definitions are added;
- The physical and chemical indexes are modified;
- The requirements for migration test are added;
- The requirements for label identification are added.

1 Scope
This standard is applicable to food contact enamelware.
2 Terms and Definitions
2.1 Flat products
Products whose depth from the mouth along horizontal plane to the lowest internal plane is less than or equal to 25mm.
2.2 Hollow products
Products whose depth from the mouth along horizontal plane to the lowest internal plane is greater than 25mm.
2.3 Storage tank
Hollow products with volume greater than or equal to 3L.
3 Basic Requirements
Food contact enamelware shall meet the requirements of GB 4806.1.
4 Technical Requirements
4.1 Sensory requirements
The enamelware shall be smooth in surface; the enamel coating shall be uniform and free from splits, notches, fish-scaling, enamel decay, point of burst, cracks, boiling marks, holes and bubbles or black spots.
4.2 Physical and chemical indexes
Physical and chemical indexes shall meet those specified in Table 1.

5.1 Migration test
5.1.1 Basic requirements
Migration test shall be in accordance with the requirements of GB 31604.1 and GB 5009.156, unless otherwise expressly stated in 5.1.2 and 5.1.3 of this standard.
