4 Requirements
4.1 General requirements
4.1.1 The cab and the connection with the vehicle shall be such designed to avoid the possibility of injuring occupants in the cab during accidents.
4.1.2 Vehicles of Category N1 and Vehicles of Category N2 with total mass less than 7,500kg shall comply with relevant requirements of test A, test C and test D specified in 5.5, 5.7 and 5.8. The vehicle type meeting the front impact requirements specified in GB 11557, GB 11551 or GB/T 20913, and vehicles of category N1 derived from M1 meeting GB 11551 or GB/T 20913 can be regarded as meeting the requirements of front impact test (test A). Test C and Test D shall only be carried out on vehicles with independent cab.
4.1.3 Vehicles of Category N3 and vehicles of Category N2 with total mass exceeding 7,500kg shall comply with relevant requirements of test A, test C and test D specified in 5.5, 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8. Test C and Test D shall only be carried out on vehicles with independent cab.
4.1.4 Front impact test (test A) shall only be carried out on flathead vehicles.
4.1.5 In order to verify the compliance with 4.1.2 or 4.1.3, the vehicle manufacturer shall determine one, two, three or four cabs for the test. The two stages of test C shall be carried out in the same cab.
4.1.6 If the vehicle manufacturer can carry out computer simulation or calculation on the strength of each component of the cab according to the test conditions required by the standard, or prove by other means that the cab does not deform (invade the living space) under the conditions of test A, test B, test C and test D, then test A, test B, test C and test D may not be carried out.
4.2 Living space after test
4.2.1 On completion of each test mentioned in 4.1.2 or 4.1.3, there shall be living space in the cab, so that the human body model specified in Annex A shall be accommodated on the seat, and when the seat is in the middle position, the human body model shall not come into contact with the inelastic components of the vehicle with Shore A hardness not less than 50. The inelastic components which may be removed from the human body model by a force of less than 100N without using any tools are not considered. For convenience of installation, the human body model may be disassembled and put into the cab for assembly, allowing the seat to be adjusted to the rearmost position. After the human body model is assembled completely, the H-point of the human body model shall coincide with the R-point of the seat. The placement of human body model and the determination of R-point of seat shall meet the requirements of GB/T 29120, and the reference data of H-point and R-point positions shall be given according to the requirements of Annex B. Finally, the seat is moved forward to the middle position to assess the living space. The human body model specified in Annex A may also be replaced by Hybrid III male dummy with or without measuring instruments, and see GB/T 20913 for relevant requirements of Hybrid III male dummy.
4.2.2 The living space shall be inspected for each seating position provided by the vehicle manufacturer.
4.3 Other conditions
4.3.1 During the test, the components used to fix the cab and the frame are allowed to be deformed and damaged provided that the cab is connected with the frame. The premise is that the cab is still connected with the frame by standard fixing device, without unexpected movement, dislocation or rotation relative to the connection point.
4.3.2 No door shall open during the test. After the test, no door is required to open.
5 Test methods
5.1 Door
Prior to the test, the cab door shall be closed but not locked.
5.2 Engine
For test A, the vehicle shall be equipped with an engine or a model with the same mass, dimension and installation method.
5.3 Cab
The cab shall be equipped with steering wheel, instrument board, driver seat and passenger seats, etc. The steering wheel and seats shall be adjusted to the normal use positions specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
5.4 Fixation of cab
For test A, the cab shall be installed on the vehicle. For test B, test C and test D, the vehicle manufacturer may choose to install the cab on the vehicle or on a separate frame. The vehicle or frame shall be fixed as described in Annex C.
5.5 Front impact test (test A)
5.5.1 The impactor shall be made of steel with evenly distributed mass, which shall not be less than 1,500kg. The impact surface of impactor shall be a flat rectangle with a length of 2,500mm and a height of 800mm (see b and h in Figure 1). The fillet radius of the edge shall be 10±5mm.
5.5.2 The impactor assembly shall be of rigid structure, and the impactor shall be freely suspended by two swing arms rigidly fixed on it, with the swing arm spacing not less than 1,000mm (see f in Figure 1). The length of the swing arm, from the suspension shaft to the geometric center of the impactor, shall not be less than 3,500mm (see L in Figure 1).
5.5.3 The suspension position of the impactor shall meet the following requirements when it is in the vertical position:
——the impact surface of the impactor is in contact with the foremost part of the vehicle;
——the center of gravity of the impactor shall be lower than the R-point of the driver seat (see distance c in Figure 1);
——the center of gravity of the impactor shall be located on the longitudinal center plane of the vehicle.
5.5.4 The impactor shall impact the forepart of cab from front to back. The impact direction shall be horizontal and parallel to the longitudinal center plane of the vehicle.
5.5.5 For vehicles of category N1 and vehicles of category N2 with a total mass of not greater than 7,500kg, the impact energy shall be 29.4kJ; for vehicles of category N3 and vehicles of category N2 with a total mass exceeding 7,500kg, the impact energy shall be 55kJ.
