Induction hardening and tempering of iron and steel parts
1 Scope
This standard specifies the basic requirements for quality control, safety and health and labor protection of induction hardening and tempering on the surface of iron and steel parts.
This standard is applicable to the heat treatment process of induction hardening and tempering and induction hardening on the surface of iron and steel parts.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 7232, GB/T 8121, GB/T 13324, GB/T 9452, GB/T 16923 as well as the following ones apply.
3.1
induction hardening and tempering
hardening is cool the iron and steel parts with appropriate cooling medium after heating them until the temperature above Ac3 or Ac1 point by induction heating for surface hardening of all or part of iron and steel parts; while tempering is cool them again after heating them to appropriate temperature below Ac1 point in tempering furnace or by induction heating in order to adjust hardness and increase toughness.

4 Designation of induction hardening and tempering
The designation of induction hardening and tempering on the surface of iron and steel parts shall meet the requirements of GB/T 12603, and its designation is 521-04.
5 To-be-treated workpiece
5.1 Common materials
Common materials for induction hardening and tempering workpieces shall be compliant with grades listed in Table 1 or equivalent to their chemical composition.
5.2 State of to-be-treated workpiece
5.2.1 The state of to-be-treated workpiece shall be recorded according to the items specified in Table 2, and be preserved.
5.2.2 The appearance, shape, dimension and accuracy of the to-be-treated workpiece shall be recorded according to the items specified in Table 3, and be preserved.

Note 1: By reference to the grades or chemical compositions shown in the table, only equivalent structural steels with specified hardenability bands and various alloy steel castings may be used.
Note 2: For the carburized steel (grade shown in GB/T 34889) which is inductively hardened and tempered after carburizing, the relevant content of this standard is also applicable to it.
Note 3: Carbon structural steel forgings refer to the grade of quality carbon structure steels. While alloy steel forgings and castings refer to the chemical composition of alloy structure steel.
