3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
towels
fabric using textile fiber as raw material, and the surface presents loop or terry, which is used for washing, keeping warm and decorating in daily life
Examples: Square towel, face towel, bath towel, towel quilt, etc.
3.2
terry towels
towels with surface loop subjecting to cutting process
4 Requirements
4.1 The basic safety technical requirements of products shall be in accordance with GB 18401, and the products for infants and children shall be in accordance with GB 31701.
4.2 The inherent quality of product includes weight deviation rate, maximum force, water absorption, fiber falling off rate, fiber content deviation, colour fastness (to washing with soap or soap and soda, to rubbing, to bleaching with chlorine) and water extract within towel, and the inherent quality indexes shall meet the requirements of Table 1.
Table 1 Inherent quality indexes
S.N. Assessment item Superior product First-grade product Acceptable
product
1 Weight deviation rate (standard atmosphere)/% ±2.5 ≥-3.5 ≥-4.5
2 Maximum force a/N ≥ 220 180
3 Water absorption b/s ≤ 10 20 30
4 Fiber falling off rate b/ % ≤ 0.5 1.5 2.0
5 Fiber content deviation/ % As per GB/T 29862
6 Colour fastness to washing with soap or soap and soda/ grade ≥ Discoloration 4 3-4 3
Staining 4 3-4 3
Colour fastness to rubbing c/grade
≥ Dry rubbing 4 3-4 3
Wet rubbing 3-4 3 3 (pigment printing, dark colour 2-3)
Colour fastness to bleaching with chlorine d/ grade ≥ Discoloration 4 3-4 3
7 Water extract within towel As per GB/T 27754 - -
Note: The weight deviation rate is used for batch delivery.
a For towels too small in size to be sampled normally, the maximum force may not be assessed.
b The water absorption and fiber falling off rate of towel quilt are not assessed.
c If the colour fastness to rubbing is excellent, the dark colour of first-grade products can be reduced by half a grade. According to GB/T 4841.3, the colour with depth >1/12 standard depth is regarded as deep colour and that with depth ≤1/12 standard depth is regarded as light colour.
d The colour fastness to chlorine bleaching is ignored for products that cannot be bleached by chlorine.
4.3 The appearance quality of products covers the specification/dimension deviation rate, defects, sewing quality and ironing quality, and the appearance quality indexes shall meet the requirements in Table 2.
