3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
air cleaner
electrical appliances for household and similar uses with certain capacity to remove one or more target pollutants from the indoor air
3.2
target pollutant
specific air pollutants with well-defined composition, mainly including particulate matters, gaseous pollutants, microorganisms, allergens and odor
Note 1: Particulate matters refer to solid, liquid or solid-liquid granular substances (e.g., dust, fume, mist, etc.) suspending in the air.
Note 2: Gaseous pollutants refer to multi-component or single-component gaseous chemicals in the indoor air environment that are harmful to human beings or organisms.
Note 3: Microorganisms refer to all tiny organisms that are difficult for individuals to observe with naked eyes.
Note 4: Allergens refer to substances that cause an allergic reaction in human body.
Note 5: Odor refers to the special smell that easily causes people's nausea, allergy and other discomfort reactions.
3.3
particulate matter
PM2.5
particulate matter having an aerodynamic equivalent diameter of 2.5μm or less in the air
[Source: GB 3095-2012, 3.4, modified]
3.4
test chamber
device, with a limited confined space and the standard test conditions, for determining the capacity of a cleaner to remove target pollutants in the air
3.5 Working modes
3.5.1
rated mode(s)
continuous and stable operation mode indicated on the cleaner, corresponding to its optimum cleaning capacity for the target pollutants
3.5.2
low noise mode(s)
continuous and stable low-noise operation mode indicated on the cleaner, such as "night", "sleep", "silent" modes
3.5.3
auto mode(s)
operation mode of the cleaner that it can realize auto adjustment of working gear by relying on sensors, algorithms, etc., without manual operation
3.5.4
off mode(s)
any modes usually persisting where the energy using unit of the air cleaner is connected to a main power source and the cleaner is not running in standby mode, network mode or active mode function
Note: An indicator that only shows the user that the cleaner is in the off position is included within the classification of the off mode. The guidance on modes and functions may be found in GB/T 35758-2017, Annex A.
[Source: GB/T 35758-2017, 3.5, modified]
3.5.5
non-network standby mode(s)
any modes usually persisting where the cleaner is connected to a mains power source without network connectivity and offers one or more of the following user oriented or protective functions
——to facilitate the activation of other modes (including activation or deactivation of active mode) by remote switch (including remote control), internal sensor, timer;
——information or status displays including clocks;
——sensor-based functions.
Note: The guidance on modes and functions may be found in GB/T 35758-2017, Annex A. A timer is a continuous clock function (which may or may not be associated with a display) that provides regular scheduled tasks (e.g. switching) and that operates on a continuous basis.
[Source: GB/T 35758-2017, 3.6, modified]
3.5.6
network standby mode(s)
any modes where the cleaner is connected to a mains power source and at least one network function is activated (such as reactivation via network command or network integrity communication) but where the primary function is not active
Note: Where a network function is provided but is not active and/or not connected to a network, then this mode will not function. A network function could become active intermittently according to a fixed schedule or in response to a network requirement. A "network" in this context includes communication between two or more separate independently powered devices or products. A network does not include one or more controls which are dedicated to a single product. Network mode may include one or more standby functions.

3.6
standby power
power consumed by a cleaner in off, standby and network modes
Note: It is expressed in watts (W).
3.7
total decay
reduction of concentration of the target pollutants in the air in a specified space under the specified conditions due to combined action of natural decay and cleaning operation
Note: Natural decay refers to the reduction of concentration of the target pollutants in the air in a specified space under the specified conditions due to non-human factors such as settlement, agglomeration, surface deposition, chemical reaction and air exchange.
3.8
clean air delivery rate; CADR
Q
parameter of a cleaner’s cleaning capacity against the target pollutants (particulate matters and gaseous pollutants) under the specified test conditions, indicating the rate of the cleaner to provide clean air
Note: It is expressed in cubic meters per hour (m3/h).
3.9
cumulate clean mass; CCM
M
parameter of a cleaner’s cumulate cleaning capacity against the target pollutants (particulate matters and gaseous pollutants) under the specified test conditions, indicating the total mass of target pollutants cleaned cumulatively by the cleaner until the cleaner’s measured CADR decays to 50% of the initial value
Note: It is expressed in milligrams (mg).
3.10
cleaning energy efficiency
η
clean air delivery rate generated by the cleaner in the rated mode per unit power consumption
Note: It is expressed in cubic meters per watt-hour [m3/(W·h)].
