3 Term, Definition and Size Designation
3.1 Term and Definition
For the purpose of this standard, the following term and definition apply.
3.1.1 Knitted garment and adornment for infant
Knitted garment and adornment for infant not older than 36 months and the one with stature less than or equal to 100cm height.
3.2 Product size designation and specification
The size designation of the knitted garment for infant (underwear, outerwear, cover all and pajamas) shall be implemented according to GB/T 6411 or GB/T 1335.3; other products shall be marked of their specifications of major positions by reference to corresponding standard or voluntarily designed by the manufacturer.
4 Requirements
The requirements of knitted garment and adornment for infant are divided into inherent quality and appearance quality; the former includes fiber content, formaldehyde content, pH value, odor, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, extractable heavy metal content, burning behavior, size change rate by water washing, sewing strength, color fastness (to saliva, water, soaping, perspiration and rubbing), safety and splicing and cross dyeing indexes while the latter includes the indexes of surface defect, specification and size deviation, size difference in itself, accessory material and sewing requirements.
4.1 Grading requirements
4.1.1 The quality grade of knitted garment and adornment for infant is classified into high-grade product, first-grade product and acceptable product.
4.1.2 The inherent quality is graded by batch while the appearance quality is graded by piece, according to combination of which, the minimum grade prevail.
4.2 Inherent quality requirements
4.2.1 See Table 1 for inherent quality requirements.

a Acceptable limit: 0.5mg/kg for chromium (VI).
4.2.2 For combinatorial packed product, if the adopted fabrics are identical, it will be permissible to select only a representative product for the inherent quality inspection.
4.2.3 Only textile material is assessed for the extractable heavy metal content.
4.2.4 Only ready-to-wear (underwear, outerwear, pajama and cover all), bedding, shorts; and short skirts are assessed for size change rate by water washing; other products are not assessed.
4.2.5 The horizontal size change rate by water washing of elastic fabric is not assessed.
Note: elastic fabric refers to fabric added with elastane fiber or leno fabric.
4.2.6 The snap button and popper are not assessed for sewing strength.
4.2.7 Flame-retardant finishing agent shall not be used for products for infants.
4.2.8 For the items which are not mentioned but required by national mandatory standard, they shall be carried out according to the requirements of such standard.
4.2.9 The inherent quality index with the worst test result is used as a quality criterion for this batch of products.
4.3 Appearance quality requirements
4.3.1 Appearance quality grading requirements
The appearance quality is graded according to surface defect, specification and size deviation, size difference in symmetrical positions, accessory material and sewing requirements. Where appearance defects of different grade are found on one product, the minimum grade shall prevail.
4.3.2 Surface defect grading requirements
See Table 2.
