3 Terms and Definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the terms and definitions specified in GB/T 20306 and GB/T 20737 as well as the following ones apply.
3.1
visual examination
a nondestructive testing method for observing, analyzing and evaluating the condition of the tested piece, which refers to the examination of the tested piece performed with human eyes or visual aid only
3.2
direct visual examination
a visual examination technique that uses eyes to detect without visual aids (except for illumination sources and magnifiers)
3.3
remote visual examination
a visual examination technique to a site or area that is difficult to perform direct visual examination by means of retro-reflector, telescope, endoscope, optical fiber, camera, video system, automated system, robot, and other suitable visual aid
3.4
translucent visual examination
a visual examination technique for observing changes in the thickness of a translucent laminate by means of artificial lighting
3.5
auxiliary lighting
an artificial illumination source used as aid for visual examination, so as to improve the conditions of visual examination and observation
3.6
surface glare
reflected light from an artificial illumination source that interferes with visual examination
3.7
translucent laminate
a type of laminate that bond with glass reinforced material, for correcting transmitted light
4 General
Visual examination is a nondestructive testing method for observing, analyzing and evaluating the condition of the tested piece with human eyes or visual aids, which is mainly intended to observe macroscopic damage of various material parts and welds such as corrosion, cracking, breakage, wear, and deformation, as well as abnormal matching, signs of overheating and leakage, and macroscopic defects of welds, etc.
Visual examination techniques include direct visual examination, remote visual examination, and translucent visual examination. Direct visual examination does not rely on aids (except illumination source and magnifier) to directly observe with bare eyes; remote visual examination can be done with retro-reflector, telescope, endoscope, optical fiber, camera, video system, automatic system, robot and other suitable visual aid for testing; translucent visual examination can be used to detect the interior of transparent and translucent materials.
5 Safety Requirements
The safety requirements during testing shall include at least:
a) Testing personnel shall observe the safety requirements of the test site, wear protective clothing and relevant protective equipments as required on the test site;
b) Care shall be taken to avoid various safety hazards such as bump, electric shock, fall, crushing, shearing, tangling, slip, drowning, and burn, etc.
This chapter does not exhaustively list the safety requirements for testing. The user of this part shall establish safety guidelines prior to testing.
6 Testing Personnel
Personnel engaged in visual examination of amusement facilities shall, in addition to comply with the relevant provisions of GB/T 34370.1, shall have an uncorrected or corrected visual acuity of not less than 5.0 (or 1.0 if expressed in decimal), and the test method shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 11533. The testing personnel shall have an eye examination every 12 months.
If the test renders special requirement for color discrimination, the testing personnel shall additionally have color test to ensure the necessary capability of color discrimination.
