This part replaces GB/T 3098.9-2010 Mechanical Properties of Fasteners — Prevailing Torque Type Steel Nuts in whole.
The following technical deviations have been made with respect to GB/T 3098.9-2010 (the previous edition):
— nuts of property class 9 have been deleted (see Tables 6 and 9 of Edition 2010);
— prevailing torques for nuts M3 and M4 have been moved to annex (see Annex C);
— the surface condition of the reference test bolt/screw has been specified in accordance with GB/T 16823.3 (see 9.3.2);
— the threaded length of the end of the test bolt/screw protrude through the nut is changed from “4 to 7 pitches” to “3 to 5 pitches” (see Figure 1 and 9.3.4);
— the determination method of the prevailing off torque has been changed (see Figure 2, point 5).
This standard has been redrafted and modified adoption of International Standard ISO 2320:2015 Fasteners — Prevailing Torque Steel Nuts — Functional Properties.
compared with ISO 2320: 2015, the technical differences in this part and their causes are as follows:
— the international standards in Normative References (see Clause 2) are replaced by corresponding Chinese standards, in order to comply with the basic standards of fasteners in China;
— "equal to 80% of the proof load of property class 4.8 bolts for D > 24 mm" is added in footnote a to comply with the production practice (see Table 3).
For the purposes of this part, the following editorial changes have also been made:
— the title of this standard is changed.
This part was proposed by the China Machinery Industry Federation.
This part is under the jurisdiction of SAC/TC 85 (National Technical Committee 85 on Fasteners of Standardization Administration of China).
SAC/TC 85 is responsible for the explanation of this part.
The previous editions of this part are as follows:
— GB/T 3098.9-1993, GB/T 3098.9-2002, GB/T 3098.9-2010;
— GB/T 928-1980.
Mechanical Properties of Fasteners — Prevailing Torque Type Steel Nuts
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 3098 specifies the functional properties for prevailing torque steel nuts when tested at an ambient temperature range of +10°C to +35°C. It includes a combined test method to determine the prevailing torque properties and the torque/clamp force properties at the same time.
This part is applicable to prevailing torque all metal type nuts and prevailing torque non-metallic insert type nuts:
— with general purpose metric screw threads in accordance with GB/T 192;
— with diameter/pitch combination in accordance with GB/T 193 and GB/T 9144;
— with coarse pitch thread M5 to M39 or with fine pitch thread of nominal diameter d = 8 mm to 39 mm;
— with thread tolerances in accordance with GB/T 9145;
— with mechanical properties in accordance with GB/T 3098.2.
Prevailing torque values specified in this part are based on laboratory test conditions.
Note 1: Actual prevailing torques in practical application can vary.
Note 2: All metal type nuts conforming to the requirements of this part are used in applications ranging from -50°C to +150°C.
Note 3: Non-metallic insert type nuts conforming to the requirements of this part are used in applications ranging from -50°C to +120°C.
Warning: Temperatures outside the ambient temperature range can influence the functional properties (torque/clamp force and prevailing torque properties). See annex A.
