Terminology of Artificial Leather and Synthetic Leather
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions for artificial leather and synthetic leather in terms of product name, process, sensory characteristic, appearance evaluation, and performance inspection.
This standard is applicable to artificial leather and synthetic leather.
2 Product Name
2.1
artificial leather
the composite material which is produced by forming a synthetic resin film (such as polyvinyl choride, polyurethane) on the woven fabric, knitted fabric or non-woven fabric using rolling, flow casting, coating and dry processes
2.2
synthetic leather
the composite material which is produced by forming a micro-porous polyurethane resin layer on woven fabric, knitted fabric or non-woven fabric using wet process first, and then subject to dry process and post-treatment process
2.3
bond leather
the composite material produced by laminating artificial leather, synthetic leather or its semi-finished products and other materials
2.4
microfiber synthetic leather
the synthetic leather made of superfine fibre base cloth
2.5
water-based polyurethane synthetic leather
the synthetic leather made with water-based polyurethane as the resin component
2.6
solvent-free artificial leather
artificial leather with 100% solid polyurethane resin as the main component
3 Process
3.1
wet-processing
the production process which solidifies the resin on the base cloth through coagulation of water solution, washing, etc.
3.2
dry-processing
the production process which solidifies the resin on the carrier through heating
3.3
dipping
the process which allows the pulp penetrating or extruded into the base cloth structure
3.4
coating
the process applying the pulp on the carrier
3.5
bonding
the process laminating multiple material layers
3.6
wet bonding
directly laminating without heating the resin of bonding layer
3.7
damp-dry bonding
laminating after the resin of bonding layer is preheated to certain dryness
3.8
dry bonding
laminating after the resin of bonding layer is heated to soft state
3.9
curing
the course where the material system is sufficiently reacted under certain conditions
3.10
spraying
the process where the material is sprayed on the semi-finished product under pressure effect
3.11
roll coating
the process where the rotatory roller is used to coat the pulp on the surface of semi-finished product
3.12
buffing
the process grinding the surface of semi-finished product
3.13
tumbling
the process which makes pattern formed or more concave-convex on the surface of artificial leather or synthetic leather under repeated mechanical forces such as circumnutating, vibration and beating, under certain conditions
3.14
embossing
mechanically compressing the artificial leather or synthetic leather
3.15
printing
the process where the pulp is printed on the surface of artificial leather or synthetic leather by using the molds.
3.16
polish
the process where the surface of artificial leather or synthetic leather is partly polished by mechanical or friction means
3.17
gilding
the process where the pattern on transfer film mold is stamped onto the surface of artificial leather or synthetic leather
3.18
punching
the process where the hole is drilled on artificial leather or synthetic leather by mechanical means
3.19
finishing
a general term for a series of processes, including spraying, roll coating, embossing and printing, which are intended to finish the surface of artificial leather or synthetic leather to improve the pattern effect
3.20
alkali deweighting
the process where toluene and alkali liquor are used to dissolve the marine phase or island phase in island fiber
3.21
rolling
the process where the materials are rolled to film by mechanical means
3.22
casting
the process where the fondant is spread and shaped to film by mold
4 Sensory Characteristics
4.1
pattern
surface pattern and texture
4.2
color
the visual characteristic formed by light illuminating on the surface
4.3
gloss
the effect which is formed by reflection of the light on the surface.
4.4
softness
the property that the three-dimensional shape of artificial leather or synthetic leather is easily changed
4.5
elasticity
the property that original shape can be rapidly recovered after the three-dimensional shape of artificial leather or synthetic leather changes.
4.6
fullness
the feeling of satiation, fullness, denseness and elasticity at grasping artificial leather or synthetic leather
4.7
flexibility
the property that the artificial leather or synthetic leather is not broken or cracked after repeated rubbing
4.8
hand feeling
the feeling of softness, fullness, elasticity and flexibility via touching, feeling, pulling, pinching and rubbing, etc.
4.9
peculiar smell
an unpleasant smell
5 Appearance Evaluation
5.1
aberration of color
the difference between the color of local surface and that of the subject or the color of the whole and that of the identified sample
5.2
color streaks
the phenomenon that the surface-distributed strip color is different from the color of the subject
5.3
color stain
the phenomenon that local or dispersed color of surface or surface effect is uneven
5.4
bright streak
the wale with extremely bright gross in comparison of local surface with the adjacent normal surface
5.5
dark streak
the wale with extremely dark gross in comparison of local surface with the adjacent normal surface
