This document is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization — Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standards.
This document replaces GB/T 2480-2008 Conventional abrasive -Silicon carbide. In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 2480-2008:
a) the scope has been modified (see Clause 1; Clause 1 of 2008 edition);
b) the designation has been modified (see Clause 4; Clause 3 of 2008 edition);
c) the chemical composition index has been modified Denotation (see 5.1; 4.1 of 2008 edition);
d) the density index has been modified (see 5.3, 4.2 of 2008 edition);
e)the magnetic content index has been modified (see 5.5, 4.5 of 2008 edition);
e) the content of J series abrasive micro-powder has been added (see 5.1, 5.3 and Table 3);
g) the marking, transport and storage requirements have been added (see Clause 8).

1 Scope
This document specifies the designations, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, transportation and storage of silicon carbide abrasives.
This document applies to the manufacture of silicon carbide abrasives for making bonded and coated abrasive tools and for free grinding, polishing and cutting purposes.

4 Designations
The designations of silicon carbide abrasives are specified as follows:
——the designation of black silicon carbide for ceramic bonded abrasives, coated abrasives and free grinding, polishing and cutting is C;
——the designation of green silicon carbide for ceramic bonded abrasives, coated abrasives and free grinding, polishing and cutting is GC;
——the designation of black silicon carbide for bonded abrasives with organic bond is C-B;
——the designation of green silicon carbide for bonded abrasives with organic bond is GC-B.
5 Technical requirements
the designation of green silicon carbide for bonded abrasives with organic bond is GC-B.
5.1 Chemical compositions
The chemical composition of product of each designation shall meet the requirements in Table 1.

5.2 Grain size distribution
The grain size distribution of abrasives used for bonded abrasives and free grinding, polishing and cutting shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 2481 (all parts).
The grain size distribution of abrasives for coated abrasives shall comply with GB/T 9258 (all parts).
5.3 Density
The density of F220 (P220) and black silicon carbide with the coarse grain size number shall not be less than 3.15 g/cm3.The density of green silicon carbide shall not be less than 3.20 g/cm3.
The density of F230 (J240, P240) and black silicon carbide with fine grain size number shall not be less than 3.13 g/cm3.The density of green silicon carbide shall not be less than 3.18 g/cm3.
