This document is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization — Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.
This document replaces GB 24427-2009 Limitation of mercury, cadmium and lead contents for alkaline and non-alkaline zinc manganese dioxide batteries and GB 24428-2009 Limitation of mercury content for zinc silver oxide, zinc oxygen and zinc manganese dioxide button batteries. In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB 24427-2009 and GB 24428-2009.
— The definitions of cadmium-free battery and lead-free battery have been added (see 3.6 and 3.7 hereof);
— Mercury-containing battery (mercury-low battery) has been deleted (see Table 1 of GB 24427-2009 and Table 2 of GB 24428-2009);
— The mercury limit of other zinc anode primary batteries except button battery (≤ 5 μg/g) has been modified and set to ≤ 1 μg/g (see Table 1 hereof, Table 1 of GB 24427-2009 and Table 2 of GB 24428-2009);
— The cadmium and lead contents of alkaline and alkaline zinc manganese dioxide battery have been modified (see Table 1 hereof, Table 1 of GB 24427-2009);
— The cadmium and lead contents of non-alkaline zinc manganese dioxide battery have been modified (see Table 1 hereof, Table 1 of GB 24427-2009);
— The cadmium and lead contents of zinc-air and zinc-silver oxide button batteries have been increased (see Table 1 hereof).

1 Scope
This document specifies the limitation requirements, inspection methods and conformity requirements of mercury, cadmium and lead contents of standardized zinc manganese dioxide battery, zinc-silver oxide battery and zinc-air battery.
This document is applicable to the production, inspection and acceptance of standardized zinc manganese dioxide battery, zinc-silver oxide battery and zinc-air battery and battery composed by several primary cells.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

primary cell
basic functional unit of power supply, which is designed as non-chargeable and can directly convert chemical energy into electrical energy
Note to entry: It consists of electrodes, electrolyte, a container, terminals and usually an isolation layer.

primary battery
battery consisting of one or multiple primary batteries and equipped with necessary devices for use (e.g., shell, terminals, marks and protective devices)

button battery
cylindrical batteries with total height less than diameter, shaped like buttons or coins
3.4
small button battery
button batteries with mass less than 1 g
3.5
mercury-free battery
button batteries with mercury content not greater than 5 μg/g, and other batteries with mercury content not greater than 1 μg/g

cadmium-free battery
batteries with cadmium content not greater than 20 μg/g

lead-free battery
batteries with lead content not greater than 40 μg/g

zinc anode primary battery

4.1 Zinc-silver oxide button battery
The standardized zinc-silver oxide batteries specified in GB/T 8897.2 include SR41, SR42, SR43, SR44, SR48, SR54, SR55, SR57, SR58, SR59, SR60, SR62, SR63, SR64, SR65, SR66, SR67, SR68 and SR69 batteries.
The standardized zinc-silver oxide button batteries specified in GB/T 8897.3 include SR516, SR521, SR527, SR614, SR616, SR621, SR626, SR712, SR714, SR716, SR721, SR726, SR731, SR736, SR754, SR916, SR920, SR927, SR936, SR1126, SR1130, SR1136, SR1142 and SR1154 batteries.
4.2 Alkaline zinc-air button battery
The standardized alkaline zinc-air button batteries specified in GB/T 8897.2 include PR70, PR41, PR48 and PR44 batteries.
4.3 Alkaline zinc manganese dioxide button battery
The standardized alkaline zinc manganese dioxide button batteries specified in GB/T 8897.2 include LR9, LR41, LR55, LR54, LR43 and LR44 batteries.
5 Content limitation of mercury, cadmium and lead for zinc anode primary battery
See Table 1 for the content limitation of mercury, cadmium and lead for zinc anode primary batteries.
Other zinc-silver oxide, zinc-air and zinc manganese dioxide button batteries that have not been standardized shall comply with the requirements of Table 1.
