This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces NY/T 788-2004 Guideline on pesticide residue trials. In addition to a number of editorial changes, the following main changes have been made with respect to NY/T 788-2004:
——The standard is renamed from Guideline on pesticide residue trials to Guideline for the testing of pesticide residues in crops;
——The clause “Normative references” is added;
——The requirements for the variety of the tested crop, the number of test plots, the test plot area, and the pesticide application appliances in the field test design are modified (see Clause 5);
——The requirements for application dosage, times, interval and period of pesticide in the final residual quantity test are modified (see Clause 6);
——The degradation dynamic test is modified into the residue degradation test, and the requirements for the number of test points, the test plots and the sampling interval are modified (see Clause 7);

Guideline for the testing of pesticide residues in crops
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, basic requirements, field test design, final residual quantity test, residue degradation test, field sample, laboratory sample, residue test, test record, test report and other requirements for the testing of pesticide residues in crops.
This standard is applicable to the residue test for pesticide registration and is used for the development of guidelines on the dietary intake evaluation, maximum residue limits and rational use of pesticides.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 2763 and the Announcements No.2308 and No.2386 of the Ministry of Agriculture and the following apply.

application dosage of the tested pesticide product proposed after efficacy trial to protect a kind of crop against diseases, insects and grasses

4 Basic requirements
4.1 Test background information
The background information includes the names, CAS Nos and physical and chemical properties of the active ingredients in pesticides, the name and formulation of the tested pesticide product, the contents of active ingredients, the registered crops and control objects, the recommended application dosage, method, period and times, the application interval and pre-harvest interval, the metabolism data of pesticides in plants, the stability data of stored pesticide residues, the residues, the test methods, and the maximum residue limits (MRL) applicable at home and abroad.
4.2 Test design principle
4.2.1 The test is designed according to the possible maximum residue level expected to obtained according to the application scope filed for registration and the recommended application dosage, method, period and times of the tested pesticide product.
4.2.2 Unlike the efficacy trial, the presence or absence of the control object does not affect the implementation of the residue test scheme, but the pesticide application period shall be as close as possible to the actual production.
4.2.3 The pesticide applied after the formation of edible part of the crops shall be subjected to the residue degradation test.
5 Field test design
5.1 Number of test points
It shall be determined in accordance with Annex 9 - “Requirements for the number of test points for pesticide registration” to the Announcement No.2569 of the Ministry of Agriculture.
5.2 Test site
5.2.1 The test site shall be determined according to the layout principle and requirements of residue test area for pesticide registration.
5.2.2 Before the test, the weather, soil type, previous crop, pesticide use history, etc. at the test site shall be investigated, upon which the plots with good and uniform crops and flat terrain shall be selected.
5.2.3 The pesticide of the same type as the tested pesticide shall not have been applied to the previous crop at the test site or be applied during the test to avoid interference with the analysis test of the tested pesticide.
5.2.4 For pesticides applied directly to the soil, in addition to the requirements of 5.2.2, parameters such as soil texture, pH value, cation exchange capacity and organic matter content shall be provided.
5.2.5 For pesticides used in places with relatively stable environmental conditions, the test shall be carried out in the representative place of common storage conditions in accordance with the technical requirements of use.
5.3 Variety of the tested crop
5.3.1 The variety of the tested crop shall be representative and generally shall be the local major variety.
5.3.2 To select the variety of the tested crop, the differences in morphology, planting season, cultivation method, growth period and maturity period and the uses of the crops shall be taken into account.
5.4 Test plot
5.4.1 One treatment plot and one reference plot are arranged at each test point.
5.4.2 The size of the test plot shall meet the sampling quantity requirements given in Annex A.
5.4.3 The plot size of field test shall be determined according to the crop variety, which shall not be less than 100m2 for food crops, 50m2 for vegetables, 4 plants for fruit trees, 8 plants for grape vines cultivated per plant, or 50m2 for natural contiguous crops with interwoven vines.
5.4.4 The reference plot and treatment plot shall be located in adjacent areas but be provided with necessary measures to avoid contamination.
5.4.5 For crops with very short harvest period (e.g., wheat) and the application methods with very short interval to harvest (e.g., de-enzyming agent), multiple test plots shall be arranged according to different intervals to harvest, which shall be applied with pesticide separately and harvested at the same time to obtain the samples with different intervals.
5.5 Pesticide application methods and appliances
5.5.1 Common application methods and appliances shall be used according to the recommended application method.
5.5.2 Before application, the applicator shall be used after thorough cleaning, inspection and calibration to ensure that it is in good working condition and can control the amount of pesticide liquid.
5.5.3 The pesticide liquid shall be applied uniformly to avoid the increase in application dosage caused by the overlapping of the spray edges or accidental droplets dripping at the turns or the reduction in application dosage due to drift.
5.5.4 If it is relatively common to apply pesticides with mechanical equipment in the area where the test point is located, it is allowed to apply the pesticide with the calibrated mechanical equipment, and the accuracy and uniformity of application, the test plot of sufficient area and no cross-contamination shall be ensured.
5.6 Field management
When other pesticides are needed to be applied in order to ensure the normal growth of the tested crop, the pesticides that do not interfere with the analysis of the tested pesticide shall be selected, with the treatment plot and reference plot kept consistent.
