This part is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This part replaces GB/T 3903.34-2008 Footwear - Test methods for shanks - Longitudinal stiffness. The following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 3903.34-2008:
——“Normative references” is modified (see Clause 2; Clause 2 of Edition 2008);
——The test results are modified (see Clause 7; Clause 7 of Edition 2008);
——The test report is modified (see Clause 8, Clause 8 of Edition 2008).
This part, by means of translation, is identical to ISO 18896: 2018 Footwear - Test methods for shanks - Longitudinal stiffness.
The Chinese document identical to the normative international documents given in this part is as follow:

Footwear - Test methods for shanks - Longitudinal stiffness
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 3903 specifies a test method for assessing the longitudinal stiffness of the steel shanks used for the reinforcement of the waist region of footwear.
This part is applicable to all kinds of shanks used for footwear.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
longitudinal stiffness
the deflection of the shank measured under specified conditions when loaded with a specified force
4 Apparatus and material
The following apparatus and material shall be used:
4.1 Test machines for the determination of the longitudinal stiffness of shanks include:
a) a heel end clamp, capable of clamping a fluted shank securely without crushing the flute with the clamped dimensions being 32mm±1mm. The angle of the clamp shall be capable of adjustment to ensure that the portion of shank to which a force is applied lies horizontal;
b) a means of applying a downward force to the forward end of the shank, of 2N, 4N, 6N and 8N with a tolerance of ±5%;
c) a means of measuring the vertical deflection of the shank at the point where the force is applied, with an accuracy of ±0.025mm.
4.2 Stopwatch, with an accuracy of ±0.1s.
4.3 Calipers and/or a stainless steel ruler, with an accuracy of ±0.5mm.
5 Sampling and conditioning
The test specimen shall be a complete shank.
At least three specimens of each type of shank shall be tested.
Test specimens shall be conditioned for 48h in a controlled atmosphere in accordance with ISO 18454 prior to the test.
Test shall be carried out in a suitably conditioned atmosphere in accordance with ISO 18454. Where this is not possible, test shall be carried out within 15min of removing the test specimen from the conditioned atmosphere.
