Food additive - Sorbitol and sorbitol solution
1 Scope
This standard is applicable to the food additive sorbitol solution produced by subjecting the glucose, which is produced by hydrolyzing and refining starch milk or starch obtained from corn and other plants, to hydrogenation under the action of catalyst, refining and concentration processes as well as to the food additive sorbitol produced by concentrating, drying and sieving such sorbitol solution.

Annex A
Inspection method
A.1 General requirements
For the purpose of this standard, unless otherwise specified, all the reagents and water used refer to analytical reagents and Grade 3 water specified in GB/T 6682. Unless otherwise specified, the standard volumetric solution, the standard solution for determination of impurities, preparations and products used in the tests shall be prepared in accordance with GB/T 601, GB/T 602 and GB/T 603. Unless otherwise specified, the solution used in the tests refers to the aqueous solution.
A.2 Identification test
In the test of sorbitol content determination, the retention time of the main peak in the chromatogram of specimen solution shall be consistent with that in the chromatogram of standard solution.
A.3 Determination of sorbitol content
A.3.1 Method summary
Using high performance liquid chromatographic method, under selected working conditions, with water as mobile phase, the components in the specimen solution are separated by chromatographic column, and detected by differential refractive index detector, and the chromatographic signals are recorded and processed by data processing system.
A.3.2 Reagents and materials
A.3.2.1 Water, Grade I water meeting those specified in GB/T 6682.
A.3.2.2 Standard specimen of sorbitol: mass fraction≥98.0%.
A.3.3 Apparatus
High-performance liquid chromatograph: equipped with differential refractive index detector.
