Case and Bag - Determination of Capacity Rate
1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination method for capacity and capacity rate of case and bag.
This standard is applicable to determination of capacity and capacity rate of various cases and bags.
2 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1
components effecting capacity
a part of bag, which is able to obviously expand the capacity of bag after being opened, such as plug connector and accessories with the same function, zipper of expansion layer, etc.
2.2
capacity
V
volume of objects contained by case and bag
The capacity defined in this standard refers to the maximum capacity when the bag is enclosed after all components effecting capacity (2.1) (excluding net and pocket components like cup pocket, compression pocket, etc.) are opened.
Note: the unit is L.
2.3
capacity rate
R
ratio of case and bag capacity to bag weight
Note: the unit is L/kg.
3 Determination of Capacity
3.1 Filler
Plastic particles, polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE), with particle size of 2~3mm and density of 0.94~0.96g/cm3.
3.2 Filling of case and bag
After filling the handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) by about half the capacity, suspend the sample by virtue of proper device to enable its bottom suspend in the air by 1.0cm, the handle or shoulder strap of product (shoulder strap is used if handle is not available) shall be in normal service state according to the design requirements; of which, the double handles shall be horizontally suspended in the rack side by side without overlapping or intersection. During filling process, slightly shake the plastic particle by virtue of slight external force until its volume (or height) is not changed through visual inspection.
Filling requirements for handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) are as follows:
——where handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) are of closed structure (e.g. zipper, etc.), they shall be filled to the closed position of bag mouth (filled to zipper position in case of zipper or similar structure), and the bag mouth shall be closed or the zipper be zipped up. If sunk zipper is adopted, handbags and knapsacks shall be filled to the natural sinking position and the zipper be zipped up;
——where handbags and knapsacks are of open structure (without components assisting closing), the products with sample capacity not greater than 10L shall be filled to the place 2.0cm below the horizontal line of bag mouth, while the products with sample capacity greater than 10L shall be filled to the place 3.0cm below the horizontal line of bag mouth;
——where handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) are of open structure and provided with components (magnetic buckle, snap button, press snap button, thread gluing, spin lock, etc.) assisting closing, they shall be filled to buckle bottom and such components assisting closing shall be closed. If the main parts of handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) are composed of multiple pockets with different heights, the filling shall be carried out by regarding the pocket with the minimum level height as standard;
——where the main body of handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) are provided with pocket (except mesh pocket) and the outer pocket is not provided with independent bottom, filling shall not be conducted; otherwise, outer pocket shall be first filled;
——where handbags and knapsacks (travelling bags) are designed with variable size, the measurement shall be conducted according to its maximum capacity;
——where the product is sold in the type of bag-in-bag and if the inside smaller bag is provided with completely independent structure, component and function and may be separately used, the measurements shall be conducted respectively.
3.3 Method A (measuring tool method)
3.3.1 Measuring tool
Measuring range shall not be less than the capacity of to-be-tested sample.
Where sample capacity is not greater than 5L, general measuring tools such as measuring cup may be adopted for measurement.
Where sample capacity is large, plastic or glass transparent vessel may be adopted as special measuring tools and the vessel wall is marked with scale with interval not greater than 5mm.
In order to ensure measuring precision, the vessel with small inside diameter shall be selected if the capacity of to-be-tested sample is small. Appropriate vessel shall be adopted according to capacity of to-be-tested sample to ensure that the precision of measuring tool is not less than 2.5% the capacity of to-be-tested sample. Prior to use, measuring tool may be calibrated according to Annex A.
Take a cylindrical vessel with flat bottom as an example, its precision shall meet the requirements of Formula (1) and its maximum permissible inside diameter shall meet the requirements of Formulas (2) and (3):
