Shanks for footwear
1 Scope
This standard specifies the product classification, technical requirements, testing methods, inspection rules and marking, packaging, transportation and storage of the shanks of footwear (including boots).
This standard is applicable to the shanks for shoes in and above 200 of shoe size (including boots).
This standard is not applicable to wooden shanks or the like.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 2703 and the following apply.

type L shank
a shank shaped in the letter L
Note: It is mostly used for female high-heeled shoes, and its rear bends down and forms short side, and the shank is embedded at the molding bottom heel.
3.2
type Y shank
a shank shaped in the letter Y
Note: Besides conventional functions, it is (also) of some auxiliary functions.
3.3
type I shank
a shank shaped in the letter I
Note: It is mostly used in medium and high heels for male and female.
4 Product classification
Shanks may be classified according to the following conditions:
——It may be classified according to using objects: male shoes shanks, female shoes shanks and children shoes shanks;
——It may be classified according to the shapes of shanks: type I shanks, type L shanks and type Y shanks;
——It may be classified according to the shank materials: metallic shanks and non-metallic shanks.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 Marking
5.1.1 The applicable heel height or applicable heel height range shall be marked on the shank, which is denoted by Arabic numerals, in mm.
5.1.2 The shanks taken out of the shoes is not subjected to inspection, which shall be marked.
5.2 Appearance quality
The shanks surface shall be smooth and flat, free from burr, rusting erosion and cracks, and the positions of the string, tack hole and prong shall be accurate.
5.3 Dimension
5.3.1 Dimension tolerance
The length tolerance is the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value in the measured values of the samples, and for the same lot, the length tolerance is not larger than 2.0mm; and the width tolerance and the thickness tolerance are the difference between the maximum and minimum values of the measured values corresponding to the head and tail of the shank, and for the same lot, the width tolerance is not larger than 1.0mm, the thickness tolerance is not larger than 0.2mm.
