GB/T 23606-2009 Copper-hydrogen embrittlement test method
1 Scope
This standard specifies the method of hydrogen embrittlement testing of deoxidized and oxygen free coppers.
This standard is applicable to the hydrogen embrittlement testing of deoxidized and oxygen free coppers.
2 Principle
Preparation of a test piece and heating in an atmosphere containing hydrogen. If oxygen is present in the metal, reaction occurs, which causes embrittlement. Cooling of the test piece out of contact with air to room temperature. Embrittlement is then revealed by close bending or reverse bending, or by metallographic examination.
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following term and definition apply:
hydrogen embrittlement
phenomenon of cracking of the grain boundaries, which causes plasticity reduction and which is caused by the reaction between cuprous oxide and reducing gases of hydrogen when copper products are exposed to the reducing atmosphere of hydrogen at high temperatures
4 Test apparatus
4.1 Hydrogen annealing apparatus
4.2 Bending tester
4.3 Bench clamp
4.4 Metallographic microscope
4.5 Electrolytic polishing and mechanical polishing devices
