3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
damaged length
maximum length of the damaged part of the material in the specified direction under the specified test conditions
Note: It is expressed in millimeters (mm).
[Source: GB/T 3291.3-1997, 2.157, modified]
3.2
afterflame time
continuous flame burning time of material after the ignition source is removed under the specified test conditions
Note: It is expressed in second(s).
[Source: GB/T 3291.3-1997, 2.145]
3.3
afterglow time
time for the material to continue flameless burning after the fire source is removed under the specified test conditions and when the flame burning is terminated, or if the flameless burning is originally carried out
Note: It is expressed in second(s).
[Source: GB/T 3291.3-1997, 2.146]
3.4
melt drip
drip of molten material, whether it burns or not
[Source: GB/T 3291.3-1997, 2.161]
3.5
density of smoke
measure of the smoke amount emitted by a material under specified test conditions
Note: It is expressed by the attenuation of light intensity transmitted through the smoke.
[Source: GB 38262-2019, 3.5]
3.6
flame spread rate, rate of flame spread
burning rate
distance of flame front spread per unit time under the specified test conditions
Note: It is expressed in millimeters/minute (mm/min).
3.7
damaged area
total area of irrecoverable damage caused by heating of the material under the specified test conditions
Note 1: Including material loss, shrinkage, softening, melting, carbonization, combustion and pyrolysis. etc.
Note 2: It is expressed in cm2.
[Source: GB/T 3291.3-1997, 2.156, modified]
3.8
thermal protective performance; TPP
accumulated energy determined by the intersection of the measured heat transfer reaction curve and Stoll curve of the material in accumulated time during testing of thermal protective material
