General purpose industrial valves - Specification of stainless steel castings
1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking and quality certification as well as additional requirements of stainless steel castings for general purpose industrial valves.
This document is applicable to austenitic stainless steel castings for pressure purpose.
Austenitic stainless steel castings not for pressure purpose can be used for reference.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
casting for pressure purpose
casting in contact with the medium and bearing its pressure
Note: Such as valve bodies, valve covers and valve discs
3.2
heat number
identifier composed of alphanumericals or alphabets and numbers to identify the casting cast by molten steel of a specific furnace
3.3
test coupon
part cast by molten steel that is from the same furnace as the casting for processing specimens for tests on mechanical properties and others
3.4
specimen
part of test coupon to be used for tests on mechanical properties and others
3.5
solution heat treatment
heat treatment process which consists of heating the castings to a suitable temperature and holding them at that temperature long enough to allow surplus phase to fully dissolve, and then rapidly cooling to obtain supersaturated solid solution
3.6
stabilization heat treatment
heat treatment process for improving intergranular corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel containing titanium or niobium
4 Technical requirements
4.1 Smelting
The castings shall be smelted by electric furnaces or refining furnaces, such as argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) furnaces.
