This standard replaces GB/T 24154-2009 General standard for sports nutrition food, and is developed by incorporating the relevant contents of QB/T 2831-2006 Sports nutrition food - Energy supplement, QB/T 2832-2006 Sports nutrition food - Protein supplement, QB/T 2833-2006 Sports nutrition food - Low-energy food, QB/T 2834-2006 Sports nutrition food - Edible creatine, QB/T 2895-2007 Sports nutrition food - Nutrients for active men, and Announcement No. 18 of 2008 of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China on the Regulations on the Use of Food Additives and Food Nutrition Enhancers in Sports Nutrition Food.
The following main changes have been made with respect to GB/T 24154-2009:
——The name of the standard is changed to “National food safety standard General standard for sports nutrition food”;
——The clause “terms and definitions” is clarified;
——The description of "product classification" is modified to categorize the products based on characteristic nutrients and sports activities, with the "supplements for vitamins and minerals" and "nutritional supplements for recovery from exercise-induced fatigue” categorized under "classification by sport activities", and the categories of "complex nutrients" and "others" deleted.
——The subclause "sensory requirements" is added;
——The technical indicators for "powdered energy supplement drinks" are deleted from "energy supplements";
——The product classification for the "low-energy foods" is modified;
——The technical indicators for "energy supplements", "low-energy foods" and "protein supplements" are combined;
——The technical requirements for categorizing products based on sports activities are added;
——The requirements regarding “limits of contaminants” are added;
——The requirements regarding “limits of mycotoxin” are added;
——The requirements regarding “limits of microorganism” are added;
——The requirements regarding the use of nutrition enhancers are added;
——The requirements for labels are modified;
——The Annex A is modified;
——The original Annex B, titled "Protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) for proteins from different sources", is deleted;

1 Scope
This standard is applicable to sports nutrition foods.
2 Terms and definitions
2.1
sports nutrition food
food specially processed to meet the physiological and metabolic status, exercise capacity and special needs for certain nutrients for active men (those who participate in physical exercise at least three times per week, with each session lasting 30 min or more and at a moderate intensity or higher)
3 Product classification
3.1 Classification by characteristic nutrients
Note: Sports nutrition foods designed to cater to different needs for energy and protein and the like are classified into three categories.
3.1.1 Energy supplements
Sports nutrition foods mainly composed of carbohydrates, which can provide energy in a rapid or sustained manner.
3.1.2 Low-energy foods
Sports nutrition foods designed to meet the demands of weight control through exercise, which include two types: those for energy expenditure and those for energy substitution.
3.1.3 Protein supplements
Sports nutrition foods mainly composed of protein and/or protein hydrolysates, which are specifically designed to meet the requirements for tissue growth and repair.
3.2 Classification by sport activities
Note: Sports nutrition foods designed to cater to the special requirements of different sports activities are classified into three categories.
3.2.1 Products for speed and strength sports
Sports nutrition foods that feature creatine, which are suitable for individuals engaged in activities such as sprinting, high jump, ball games, weightlifting, wrestling, judo, Taekwondo, bodybuilding, and strength training.
3.2.2 Products for endurance sports
Sports nutrition foods that feature Vitamin B1 and Vitamin B2, which are suitable for individuals engaged in activities such as middle-distance race, jogging, brisk walking, cycling, swimming, rowing, fit aerobics, dancing, and outdoor sports.
3.2.3 Products for recovery from exercise
Sports nutrition foods that feature peptides, which are suitable for individuals in need of recovery after engaging in exercises of medium or high intensity or prolonged duration.
4 Technical requirements
4.1 Basic requirements
The raw materials used in sports nutrition foods shall comply with the requirements in respective standards and/or relevant regulations, and shall not contain any substances prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
4.2 Sensory requirements
The color, luster, taste, odor, texture and fast dissolvability of sports nutrition foods shall conform to the characteristics of the corresponding products, and there shall be no foreign matter visible.
4.3 Technical indicators
4.3.1 The technical indicators to be met by each type of products categorized by characteristic nutrients shall meet the requirements of Table 1. The proportion of high-quality protein in protein supplements shall not be less than 50%.
