The main technical contents of this code are as follows: 1. General Provisions; 2. Terms; 3. Site and General Layout; 4. Architectural Design; 5. Fire Protection and Safe Evacuation; 6. Indoor Environment; 7. Building equipment.
The following technical deviations have been made in this code: 1. terms are modified and added; 2. foundation and outdoor environment are refined, and safety index is added; 3. classification and usable area standard of some bedrooms are modified and added; 4. the standard of appliance configuration in affiliating room is modified; 5. the clause of fire protection and safe evacuation is added.
Provisions printed in bold type in this code are mandatory ones and must be implemented strictly.

Code for Design of Dormitory Building
1 General Provisions
1.0.1 This standard is formulated with a view to implementing the national technical and economic policies in the design of dormitory building and making the design to be of usability, economy, green, aesthetic and high quality.
1.0.2 This code is applicable to design of newly constructed, renovated and extended dormitory building.
1.0.3 The design of dormitory building shall meet the requirements of the local urban and rural planning, the local climate and geographical conditions, and the social, economic and cultural development level.
1.0.4 The design of dormitory building shall not only meet the requirements of this code, but also meet those specified in the relevant national current standards of China.
2 Terms
2.0.1 dormitory
residential buildings that are centrally managed and used by single person

3 Site and General Layout
3.1 Site
3.1.1 Dormitory shall not be built on the sites prone to serious geological hazards.
3.1.2 Dormitory site should be under sunshine conditions, daylighting and good ventilation.
3.1.3 The relative flat site and difficult of water accumulation should be selected for dormitory.
3.1.4 The dormitory shall be able to avoid the influence of noise and pollution sources, and shall meet the requirements of national current standards on health protection.
3.2 General Layout
3.2.1 The dormitory should have favorable outdoor environment.
3.2.2 The site design of dormitory shall be carried out, and there shall have perfect drainage facilities.
3.2.3 Dormitory building should be close to work and study place. It should be close to public canteen, commercial network, public bath and other supporting service facilities, and its service radius should not exceed 250m.
3.2.4 The main entrances and exits of dormitory building shall be provided with personnel distribution center, and the per capita area index shall not be less than 0.20m2. There should be centralized green space near the dormitory.
3.2.5 Distribution center and centralized green space should be simultaneously served as emergency shelter, which may be supplied with spare power source, water source, toilet/bath or drainage and other necessity facilities.
3.2.6 There shall be reasonable streamline design of personnel, non-motor vehicles and motor vehicles, so as to avoid motor vehicles passing through the dormitory area.
3.2.7 There shall be outdoor activity space and bicycle storage place near the dormitory; parking space for motor vehicles should be provided in the dormitory area, and parking spaces and charging facilities for electric cars may be provided or reserved.
3.2.8 The room interval of dormitory building shall meet the requirements of current national standards on fire protection and daylighting, and shall meet the relevant requirements of urban planning.
3.2.9 Accessible facilities shall be provided for public traffic space, foot path in the dormitory area and exits and entrances of dormitory, which shall comply with the relevant requirements of the current national standard Codes for Accessibility Design (GB 50763).
3.2.10 Identification system shall be installed in the dormitory area.
4 Architectural Design
4.1 General Requirements
4.1.1 The plane layout of dormitory may be in gallery type and unit type layout, and the horizontal traffic streamline of middle corridor type dormitory should not be too long.
4.1.2 Caretaker room, activity room and clothes drying space shall be set in each dormitory building. The arrangement of public rooms shall have no influence bedrooms.
4.1.3 Dormitory building shall meet the requirement of natural daylighting and air conditioning. Half and above bedrooms of dormitory building shall be good orientation.
4.1.4 The setting requirements of accessible bedrooms and accessible facilities of dormitory shall meet the relevant requirements of the current national standard Codes for Accessibility Design (GB 50763).
4.1.5 When dormitory with open and transparent side corridor and outside stairway, anti-rain facilities and anti-skid measures of floors shall be provided. Antiskid design of exit and entrance and platform, public corridor, elevator hall, bathroom, washroom, toilet shall meet the requirements of the current professional standard Technical Specification for Slip Resistance of Building Floor (JGJ/T 331).
4.1.6 When heating and air conditioning equipment are set up, the equipment foundation, shelf board and other building elements shall be integrated with the building.
4.1.7 When public exit and entrance of dormitory is located under the balcony, side corridor and open stair platform, safety protective measures to prevent person injured by falling objects shall be taken.
4.1.8 Design of dormitory building shall make use of industrialized construction technology, and shall comply with the relevant requirements of the current national standard Standard for Modular Coordination of Building (GB/T 50002).
4.2 Bedroom
4.2.1 Bedrooms of dormitory shall be classified into five types according to their service requirements, the usable area per capita of each type of bedroom should not be less than those specified in Table 4.2.1.

Note 1: The area in this table excluding the area of lavatory and balcony of bedroom;
Note 2: The occupants of Type 5 dormitory should be 8 persons, and should not exceed 16 persons;
Note 3: The area of bedroom for the disabled should be properly increased, and the occupants should not exceed 4 persons; wheelchair turning space with diameter not less than 1.5m shall be provided in the bedroom.
4.2.2 The arrangement of beds in bedroom shall meet the following requirements:
1 The distance between the long sides of two beds shall not be less than 0.60m, and shall not be less than 0.80m in accessible bedroom;
2 The distance between two bed heads shall not be less than 0.10m;
3 The width of walkway between two rows of beds, or between bed and wall, shall not be less than 1.20m, and wheelchair turning space shall be provided in the bedroom of the disabled;
4 The position of heating facilities shall be reasonably arranged in bedroom of heating area.
4.2.3 Store space shall be provided in bedroom, and net store space per capita should be 0.50m3 to 0.80m3; the net depth of clothes store space should not be less than 0.55m.When fixed luggage rack is provided, the clearance length of each lattice should not be less than 0.80m, the width should not be less than 0.60m, and the height should not be less than 0.45m. For the dimensions of bookshelf, the net depth shall not be less than 0.25m, and the net height of each lattice shall not be less than 0.35m.
4.2.4 For the wall surface adjacent to public washroom, public toilet, lavatory and other wet rooms of bedroom, damp-proof treatment for upstream face of adjacent wall shall be carried out.
4.2.5 Bedroom shall not be located basement.
4.2.6 Dormitory bedrooms of elementary and secondary schools shall not be located at semi-basement, and other dormitory bedrooms should not be located at semi-basement.
4.2.7 At least one accessible bedroom shall be set on the main entrance floor of dormitory building, and accessible bathroom should be set.
