This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Ink of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 127).
Method for determination of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) content in the ink
1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination methods and test report of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in inks and similar products.
This standard is applicable to all kinds of inks and similar products.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
ink
dispersion system composed of colorants, binders, adjuvants, etc., used for coloring the printed material during printing
[GB/T 15962-2018, Definition 2.1]
3.2
volatile organic compounds; VOCs
organic compounds of which the initial boiling point is lower than or equal to 250°C under the standard pressure of 101.3kPa
[HJ2542-2016, definition 3.2]
3.3
volatile organic compound content
content of volatile organic compounds measured in the ink under specified condition
Note: It is a revision of Definition 3.2 in GB/T 23985-2009.
4 Determination methods
4.1 For the purpose of this standard, it is assumed that the volatile matter are water and organic compounds. When the expected VOCs content (mass fraction) in the ink is greater than 15%, the VOCs content in the product shall be determined by difference method, as shown in Annex A.
4.2 For the purpose of this standard, it is assumed that the volatile matter are water and organic compounds When the expected VOCs content (mass fraction) in the ink is less than or equal to 15%, the VOCs content in the product shall be determined by gas chromatographic method, as shown in Annex B.
4.3 Formaldehyde content in ink shall be determined according to the methods specified in GB/T 23993-2009.
5 Test report
The test report shall at least include the following information:
a) Name of the inspected product;
b) No. of this standard, test basis and determination method;
c) Test results;
d) Any test conditions deviating from the test basis;
e) Differences with the specified test procedures due to agreements or other reasons;
f) Test date;
g) Test apparatus;
h) Number of tests.
