1 Subject Content and Applicable Scope
This Standard specifies the definition of general terminology within the range of high voltage test techniques and insulation co-ordination.
This Standard is applicable to the set of standard, the compilation of technical document, the preparation and translation of professional manual, teaching material and books.
For special terminologies with narrow application scope, it may be specified in relevant standards.
2 General Terminologies
2.1 High-voltage techniques
Relevant technical problems under high voltage, such as high voltage field, high voltage insulation, overvoltage and insulation co-ordination and high voltage test techniques etc.
2.2 High-voltage electric power equipment
The general term of high-voltage equipment for power transmission and distribution in power system.
2.3 Equipment for electric power transmission and distribution
The general term of electrical equipment and apparatus for power transmission and distribution and the control, measurement, protection of corresponding power system.
2.4 Nominal voltage of a (three phase) system
One proper set value of voltage between phases (r.m.s) to nominal or distinguish the system.
2.5 Highest voltage of a (three phase) system
Under normal operation condition, the highest value of voltage between phases (r.m.s) at any time and any point of the system.
Note: it excludes transient voltage (caused by switching in the system) and all kinds of temporary voltage generated at abnormal condition (such as fault or sudden load rejection).
2.6 Rated voltage for equipment
Voltage between phases (r.m.s) marked on equipment and relevant to certain operating characteristics of the system.
Note: for the equipment inapplicable to this definition, it may be specified in relevant professional standard.
2.7 Highest voltage for equipment
Highest value of voltage between phases (r.m.s) used to determine equipment insulation or other characteristics.
Note: "other characteristics" refers to the characteristics specified in related equipment standard and relevant to highest voltage for equipment.
