Polymer-housed Metal Oxide Surge Arresters without Gaps for A.C. Systems
1 Scope
This standard applies to polymer-housed metal oxide surge arresters without gaps designed to limit overvoltage on A.C. power circuits.
This standard specifies such contents as the technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules of polymer-housed metal oxide surge arresters without gaps (hereinafter referred to as arresters) with rated voltage of 468kV or below.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 2900.12, GB/T 2900.19, GB 11032 and GB/T 19519 and the following apply.
3.1
housing and sheds
housing is an external insulating part of an arrester which provides the necessary creepage distance and protects the internal parts from the environment; housing may consist of several parts providing mechanical strength and protection against the environment
shed is an insulating part projecting from the housing intended to increase the creepage distance
3.2
polymer-housed metal oxide surge attesters without gaps
arresters without gaps composed of non-linear metal-oxide resistors and corresponding spare parts and with their housings and sheds made of polymeric insulating materials
3.3
transmission line arrester
arrester installed on transmission line and mainly used for limiting the lightning overvoltage and operating overvoltage on line
3.4
electrical unit
portion of an arrester in which each end of the unit is terminated with an electrode which is exposed to the external environment
3.5
mechanical unit
portion of an arrester in which the resistors within the unit are mechanically restrained from moving in an axial direction
4 Identification and Classification
4.1 Arrester Identification
Arresters shall be identified by the following minimum information which shall appear on a nameplate permanently attached to the arrester:
——arrester type;
——continuous operating voltage;
——rated voltage;
——DC reference voltage;
——rated frequency (if the rated frequency of arrester is the same as the frequency specified in 5.2, no identification is required);
——nominal discharge current and residual voltage at nominal discharge current;
——rated short-circuit current in kA (r.m.s.);
——the manufacturer's name or trade mark;
