Note: The road traffic markings shown in the figures in this document are only schematic.
4.2 Classification
4.2.1 By their functions, road traffic signs are classified into main signs and auxiliary signs:
a) Main signs include:
1) prohibition signs, which prohibit or restrict the traffic behavior of road users;
2) indication signs, which indicate that road users shall follow;
3) warning signs, which warn road users to note the road and traffic situations;
4) guide signs, which deliver the information of road direction, location or distance;
5) tourist area signs, which show the direction and distance of scenic spots;

4.2.6 By the mandatory degree of information delivered, road traffic signs are classified into mandatory ones and non-mandatory ones.
Prohibition signs and indication signs must be followed by road users, while other signs are for information, for example, guide signs and tourist area signs.
