This Part is Part 1 of GB 2099 and is modified in relation to Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar Purposes – Part 1: General Requirements (IEC 60884-1: 2006; Edition 3.1). The main differences between this Part and IEC 60884-1: 2006 are as follows:
1. Temperature of operating environment
In Chapter 1 of IEC 60884-1: 2006, it specifies "The plugs mentioned in this standard as well as fixed or mobile sockets are usually used in 25℃ ambient temperature or below, occasionally 35℃." Considering the geographic location of China and the distribution of actual ambient temperature under natural climate, the mean annual temperature, highest temperature and humidity are high at the humid subtropics and humid tropics south of the Yangtze River. Thus, this Part changed the temperature of operating environment into: "The plugs mentioned in this standard as well as fixed or mobile sockets are usually used in 35℃ ambient temperature or below, occasionally 40℃."
2. Additional test of elastic material
In Chapter 9 and 10 of IEC 60884-1: 2006, it specifies that additional tests shall be carried out for electric accessories of thermoplastic material or elastic material at (35±2)℃ ambient temperature. Considering the harsh temperature of operating environment in China as well as the temperature requirements of operating environment specified in Chapter 1, "(35±2)℃" was changed into "(40±2)℃".
3. Humid heat test
In 16.3 of IEC 60884-1: 2006, it specifies "the air temperature (of humidity cabinet) shall maintain at any convenient value t±1K between 20℃~30℃. Before placing samples into the humidity cabinet, the temperature of samples shall reach t~(t+4)℃." Considering the humid tropical climate of some regions in China as well as the fact that humid heat test is performed for electric and electronic products in China at (40±2)℃, this Part specifies "the air temperature at the position where samples are placed shall maintain at (40±2)℃. Before placing samples into the humidity cabinet, the temperature of samples shall reach such temperature. "Such requirement keeps consistent with the harsh level specified in "Basic Environmental Testing Procedures for Electric and Electronic Products - Test Db: Damp Heat, Cyclic" (GB/T 2423.4) which is modified in relation to IEC 60068-2-30. "
4. Rated current
Given that Grade 25A rated current is available in household three-phase plug and socket system in China, relevant requirements for electric accessories of 25A rated current were added in this Part compared with IEC 60884-1: 2006.
5. Applicability of flat pin type
Since flat pin system is adopted in household plug and socket system in China, special inspection requirements were added in this Part (compared with IEC 60884-1: 2006) for such system in Chapter 9 - Dimension Inspection, 24.2, 24.10 and Figure 30; the gauge tolerance for dimension inspection was modified.
6. Notes
The notes in IEC 60884-1: 2006 which are inconsistent with or inapplicable to China's actual situation was deleted or processed in this Part.
This Part replaces "Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar Purposes - Part 1: General Requirements" (GB 2099.1-1996).
The main changes between this Part and GB 2099.1-1996 are as follows:
1) A general description for test stated in Chapter 5 was modified and the provision that routine test shall be carried out was added (see 5.1, 5.2 and 5.6).
2) In the optimal combination of type and rated value, 130V rated voltage as well as 2.5A and 25A rated currents were added (See Table 1).
3) The requirements of sockets with designated purpose classification were added (see 7.2.5 and 11.6).
4) The requirements of protective earthing symbol, type and IP code were modified (see 8.2, 8.3 and 8.6).
5) The dimensions of household three-phase plugs and sockets and the interchange and un-interchange ability of adaptors involved in the dimension inspection were added; the tolerance of gauge was modified (see 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 and Table 2).
6) Electric accessories with rated voltage less than or equal to 130V and rated current of 2.5A and 25A as well as the test methods were added (see 12.2.1, Table 3, 13.21, Table 14, 21, 23.2 and Table 20).
7) Requirements for the probe test of socket with protective door were added (see 10.5 and 21).
8) The requirements of original 13.14 "the multi-position socket shall be composed by sockets with earthed plug bush completely or sockets without earthed plug bush completely" were deleted.
9) The requirements and test methods for the plug and mobile socket structure were modified and added see 14.2, 14.10, 14.11, 14.12, 14.17, 14.18 and 14.21).
10) Requirements and test requirements for protection against the harmful effect caused by risk component and solid objects enter were added (see 16.2.1); the original 16.2.2 and 16.2.3 were deleted.
11) Requirements and test methods for the structure, breaking capacity, normal operation, mechanical strength, abnormal heat resistance, fire resistance and additional test of electric accessories with plugs with earthed flexible plug bush, non-solid plug pin and sheathed plug pin related with the conversion products (see 13.17, 14.2, 20, 21, 22.1, 24.7, 24.10, 28.1.2 and 30).
12) The drop test device (barrel) in Chapter 24 mechanical strength shall be in accordance with the new edition of GB / T 2423.8; the concept of average feature socket was introduced and methods for inspecting the plug pin deformation after test were unified in 24.2. 24.13 Test Requirements was added for mobile multi-position socket.
13) Chapter 25 Heat Resisting Requirements for Different Type of Electric Accessories and Parts Was Modified and Made Clear.
14) Requirements for the electric clearance between the live parts and metal box and easily accessible metal parts in Item 8 of Chapter 27 were modified (see Table 23).
15) Requirements for the glow-wire test of insulating materials to ensure the earthing terminal of the fixed socket at the normal position were added (see 28.1.1).
16) Appendix A, Appendix B (both normative) and Appendix C (informative) were added.
This Part (GB 2099.1), is the Part 1: General Requirements of GB 2099 and the main standard for plugs and socket-outlets for household and similar purposes. Part 2: Particular Requirements (GB 2099.2 ~2099.7) of GB 2099 shall be used in conjunction with this Part. The types, basic parameters of single-phase and three-phase plugs and sockets as well as the dimensional standards GB 1002 and GB 1003 shall coordinate and support this Part.
Appendix A and Appendix B in this Part are normative, and Appendix C is informative.

1. Scope
This part of GB 2099 applies to plugs and fixed or portable socket-outlets for a.c. only, with or without earthing contact, with a rated voltage greater than 50 V but not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32 A, intended for household and similar purposes, either indoors or outdoors.
The rated current is limited to 16 A maximum for fixed socket-outlets provided with screwless terminals.
This standard does not cover requirements for flush mounting boxes: however, it covers only those requirements for surface-type mounting boxes which are necessary for the tests on the socket-outlet.
NOTE 1: General requirements for mounting boxes are given in GB 17466.
This standard also applies to plugs incorporated in cord sets, to plugs and portable socket -outlets incorporated in cord extension sets and to plugs and socket-outlets which are a component of an appliance, unless otherwise stated in the standard for the relevant appliance.
This standard does not apply to
--plugs, socket-outlets and couplers for industrial purposes;
--appliance couplers;
--plugs, fixed and portable socket-outlets for ELV;
NOTE 2: ELV values are specified in GB 16895.21.
--fixed socket-outlets combined with fuses, automatic switches, etc.
NOTE 3: Socket-outlets with pilot lights are allowed provided that pilot lights comply with the relevant standard, if any.
Plugs and fixed socket-outlets complying with this part are suitable for use at ambient temperatures not normally exceeding 35 °C, but occasionally reaching 40 °C1).
NOTE 4 Socket-outlets complying with this part are only suitable for incorporation in equipment in such a way and in such a place that it is unlikely that the surrounding temperature exceeds 40 °C.
In locations where special conditions prevail, such as in ships, vehicles and the like and in hazardous locations, for example where explosions are liable to occur, special constructions may be required.

4 General requirements
