Introduction
When the residual capacity of traction battery used in electric vehicle is reduced to 80 % of its nominal capacity, it can no longer meet the requirements of the electric vehicle. However, the traction battery scrapped from the electric vehicle still has favorable electrical performance because of its advanced manufacturing technology, and its residual capacity can still meet the requirements of energy storage facilities and low-power electrical appliances. Moreover, the traction battery pack consists of several modules or cells. Even if the battery pack cannot continue to be used due to the damage of individual modules or cells, other modules and cells in the battery still have a great potential for secondary use. In the process of recovery of used traction battery used in electric vehicle, the move of breaking used traction battery for material recovery will cause great waste of resources. Therefore, in the principle of maximizing resource utilization, it is necessary to conduct echelon use of used traction battery used in electric vehicle; moreover, its modules and cells can be combined and reused according to the actual market demand, creating considerable potential market and economic values.
Although the echelon use of used traction battery is of great significance, not all used traction batteries meet the requirements of echelon use. After a period of use, the traction batteries will have changes in electrical properties such as capacity, internal resistance, charge retention rate and consistency between battery cells. Besides, electric vehicles are no longer the object of echelon use, and their technical requirements will also change. Therefore, the critical technical problems of echelon use of used traction battery used in electric vehicle are to judge what kind of batteries meet the requirements of echelon use, what kind of specifications shall be met in the process of echelon use, and what kind of requirements shall be met by echelon used battery products. Since many technical problems shall be solved in the echelon use of traction battery used in electric vehicle, in which many related parties with different requirements for the use of this document are involved, GB/T 34015 Recovery of traction battery used in electric vehicle — Echelon use is to be compiled in six parts:
——Part 1: Test of residual capacity. The purpose is to judge the residual capacity of retired batteries and determine whether they have echelon use value.
——Part 2: Removing requirements. The purpose is to guide enterprises how to safely and efficiently remove batteries from electric vehicles.
——Part 3: Echelon using requirement. The purpose is to guide echelon use enterprises to judge the echelon use of retired batteries.
——Part 4: Labels for echelon used battery products. The purpose is to standardize the labels for echelon used battery products and protect consumers' right to know.
——Part 5: Design guide for echelon use. The purpose is to guide battery manufacturers how to improve the echelon use performance of new batteries, and reduce the cost of echelon use in the future while meeting the use requirements of electric vehicles.
——Part 6: Specifications for remaining life evaluation. The purpose is to determine the residual cycle life of retired batteries with high efficiency, no damage and low cost, so as to ensure that the echelon used battery products still have higher residual cycle life and safety.
GB/T 34015.4 is of great significance to the application of echelon used battery products of traction batteries used in electric vehicles. Used traction batteries used in electric vehicles are sold as Class I products again after echelon use, and labels to the products can not only provide convenience for traceability within enterprises, but also protect the right to know entitled by the customers of echelon used battery products. The standard and clear labels for echelon used battery products give users direct cognition, which facilitates the customers to choose products freely by observing the basic information and sources of products on the simple labels, and distinguishing the quality of products.
