1 Scope
1.1 Overview
This part of GB/T 31037 specifies technical requirements, test methods, test rules and technical documents of fuel cell power system used for industrial lift truck application.
Fuel cell power system providing power for electric industrial lift trucks for indoor or outdoor use covers fuel cell power system (hereinafter referred to as power system) and energy storage module. Energy storage module refers to the power storage device used for starting power system, assisting fuel battery power system in power supply to internal or external load. And it is composed of lead acid battery, nickel-metal hydride battery, lithium ion battery, ultra-capacitors or other energy storage modules with corresponding functions. This part is only involved with parts of technical conditions of fuel cell power system, excluding the requirements of energy storage modules.
Industrial lift trucks in this standard covers: counterbalanced fork-lift truck, reach trucks, straddle trucks, pallet-stacking trucks, platform trucks, trucks with liftable operating floor, side-loading truck, rough-terrain forklift, lateral-stacking trucks (both sides), three-direction stacking trucks, high-lifting straddlers for stacking, pallet trucks, platform carriers, non-stacking low-lifting straddler and order picker.
This part is applicable to proton exchange membrane fuel cell power system for with gaseous hydrogen as fuel and air as oxidizing agent.
The hazardous situations considered in this part are limited to the safety measures that shall be taken where the abnormal operation of fuel cell power system may do the damage to itself.
1.2 System boundary
The schematic diagram of system boundary is as shown in Figure 1. Therein, fuel cell power system components are in heavy line frame and the incoming/outgoing arrows in the boundary of frame are the input and output of fuel cell power system.

Figure 1 Schematic Diagram of Boundary for Power System
The power system applicable to this part consists of whole or part of components in power system boundary of Figure 1, but its overall design shall meet the realization of set functions. The components and functions in power system boundary include:
- Fuel cell modules: consist of the following parts: one or more fuel cell stacks, pipeline system for fuel, oxidizing agent and waste gas transfer, circuit connection, monitor and/or control measures for fuel cell stacks transmission;
- Fuel (hydrogen) storage system: parts and its relevant accessories that are installed at the insider of power system or lifting trucks (fixedly or removablely) and used for the fuel (hydrogen) storage;
- Fuel(hydrogen)supply system: including but not limited to such devices and components as pipelines, valves, sensors, fuel pressurization/decompression/pressurizer which perform such processes as pressurization, decompression or stabilivolt of fuels inputted to power system and transport the fuels from fuel storage system to fuel cell module;
- Oxidizing agent(air)supply system: including but not limited to such devices as filters, pipelines, air compressors(air blower), sensors, valves which perform such processes as voltage regulation and filter of oxidizing agent (air) inputted to power system and transport oxidizing agent (air) to fuel cell module;
- Thermal management system: including but not limited to radiators, matching fans, circulating fluid pumps, valve, sensors, cooling fluid storage tanks and supplemental tanks, which maintain power system operate within the range of working temperature specified by manufacturer via heating, cooling or heat extraction;
- Humidification system: the device used for performing humidification of fuel and oxidizing agent (air) and raising relative humidity;
- Water processing system: including but not limited to pipeline, water circulating pump, valve, sensor, water storage and supplemental tank. Where the recovery of water produced by power system is used for such purposes as humidification fuel and oxidizing agent, the physical particles and metal ions harmful to power system in water shall be removed;
- Control system: composed of such vital devices and components as sensor, circuit, operative component, control device and software program for adjusting and monitoring, where the power system need not manual intervention, it can maintain the operation parameter within the limitation specified by manufacturer and guarantees the normal operation of power system;
- Power regulating system: including but not limited to DC/DC or DC/AC and circuit. Output power of fuel cell stack will provide power output conforming to operation requirements via adjusting current and voltage according to the requirements of internal devices required power and external output power of power system;
-Ventilation system: the system realizing the internal and external air exchange of power system via forced or natural method;
-Fuel cell power system: consists of whole or part of components in schematic diagram of power system boundary and energy storage modules. It is divided into one-piece and integrated system:
One-piece system: all the components of power system are put into one enclosure. Display and control interface or function button may be attached to the place where operating personnel is easy to operate, in accordance with actual conditions.
Integrated system: each parts of power system are scatteredly attached to industrial lift trucks in accordance with the structural space and gravity center of trucks, but all parts are connected together via lines or pipelines, constituting one complete set of fuel cell power system.
