Proximate analysis of coal -
Instrumental method
1 Scope
This standard specifies the method summary, reagents and materials, apparatus, determination procedures, result calculation, precision and fixed carbon calculation for determining the moisture, ash and volatile component of coal using automatic industrial analyzer.
This standard is applicable to lignite, soft coal and anthracite.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Method summary
3.1 Determination of moisture content
Weigh a certain amount of coal sample for general analysis test and dry it in the heating furnace at 105℃ to 110℃ in air or nitrogen flow to a constant mass, calculate the moisture mass fraction of the coal sample according to the mass loss of the coal sample.
3.2 Determination of ash
Weigh a certain amount of coal sample for general analysis test and heat it to (815±10)℃ in a heating furnace according to the specified procedure, in this process incinerate and ignite it to a constant mass in an air or oxygen flow, and calculate the ash mass fraction of the coal sample according to the mass of the residue.
3.3 Determination of volatile component
Weigh a certain amount of coal sample for general analysis test and heat it in a heating furnace at (900±10)℃ for 7 min in an air-isolated environment, and take the mass fraction of reduced mass to the coal sample mass subtracting the moisture mass fraction of the coal sample as the volatile component mass fraction of the coal sample.
4 Reagents and materials
4.1 Nitrogen: with a purity of 99.9% or better.
4.2 Oxygen: with a purity of 99.9%, without hydrogen.
4.5 Crucible: used for moisture and ash determination, made of porcelain or quartz, with sufficient bottom area to ensure that the mass of the coal sample per square centimeter does not exceed 0.15 g after the coal sample is leveled.
4.6 Volatile component crucible: made of porcelain or quartz, equipped with a tight cover, with shape and size meeting the requirements of GB/T 212.
4.7 Certified coal reference material: reference material for national first-class coal physical characteristics and chemical composition analysis.
