This standard adopts ASTM D5797: 2007 "Standard Specifications for Fuel Methanol (M70-M85) for Automotive Spark-Ignition Engines" (English edition) with equivalent modification, and the comparison on chapter and section of this standard and ASTM D5797: 2007 is detailed in Annex D.
The main differences between this standard and ASTM D5797: 2007 are as:
——As for normative references, this standard adopts corresponding national standards or petrochemical industry standards if the related national standards or petrochemical industry standards in China have been implemented; if there is no related standards in China, this standard adopts the normative documents in ASTM D5797: 2007;
——The arbitration test is appointed;
——Cancel the grade of fuel methanol (M70~M85) specified according to geographic position and environment temperature scope, and set up only a methanol gasoline (M85) for motor vehicles;
——Revise the appearance index in the former standard, change "clear and bright liquid" in the former standard to "jacinth transparent liquid", and make the provisions in the formation of the color "jacinth";

1 Scope
This standard specifies terms and definitions, abbreviation, requirements and test method, test rules, marking, and packaging, transportation and storage, and safety of methanol gasoline (M85) for motor vehicles mixed by 84%~86% (volume fraction) methanol, 16%~14% (volume fraction) gasoline (M85) for motor vehicles and additive to improve service performance.
The product that this standard applies is applicable to be used as fuel for methanol gasoline (M85) spark-ignition engine.
The molecular formula of methanol is CH3OH.

3 Terms, definitions and abbreviations
The following terms, definitions and abbreviations are applicable to this standard.
3.1 Aliphatic ether
Oxygen-containing, ashless, organic compound in which the oxygen atom is interposed between two carbon atoms (organic groups), has the general formula CnH2n+2O with n being 5 to 8. The aliphatic ether in this standard refers to only saturated compound.
3.2 Methanol gasoline (M85) for motor vehicles
Products mixed by methanol and gasoline for motor vehicles
Note: the addition of methanol is 84% ~ 86% (volume fraction).
3.3 Higher alcohols
Aliphatic alcohols of the general formula CnH2n+1OH with carbon number being 2 to 8
3.4 Hydrocarbon
Those components in an ethanol-hydrocarbon blend containing only hydrogen and carbon.
3.5 Low-volume connector
Special union for connecting two lengths of tubing 1.6 mm inside diameter and smaller.
Also referred to as a zero dead-volume union.
3.6 Split ratio
In gas chromatography using capillary columns the ratio of the total flow of the carrier gas to the sample inlet versus the flow of carrier gas to the capillary column.
3.7 TCEP
1,2,3-tris-2-cyanoethoxypropane. A gas chromatographic liquid phase.
3.8 WCOT
Abbreviation for “wall-coated open-tubular column”, a type of capillary column, wall-coated open tubular, used in gas chromatography. This type of column is prepared by coating the inside of the capillary with a thin film of stationary phase.

a The sample is injected into a 100 mL glass measuring cylinder for observation, and it shall be jacinth transparent liquid free of laminationm suspended and precipitated mechanical impurities. In the case of disagreement, the test result gained in accordance with GB/T 511 shall prevail. The color jacinth is formed by adding Sudan Red IV. The addition of Sudan Red IV should be 8 mg/kg ~ 10 mg/kg, and the index number hereof is C.I.Solvent Red 24 (26105). Except this, the dye of other kinds must not be added artificially.
b "Hydrocarbon + aliphatic ether" is gasoline for motor vehicles meeting the requirements of GB 17930. The content of "hydrocarbon + aliphatic ether" may be gained by the method "deducting the total content of methanol, water and other ethanol from 100". In the case of disagreement, the test result gained in accordance with Annex B shall prevail.
c In the case of disagreement, the test result gained in accordance with GB/T 8020 shall prevail. When adopting the test method specified in ASTM D5059, methanol (analytical reagent) is adopted as solvent to prepare reference solution to prevent error due to large difference of carbon hydrogen ratio.
d In the case of disagreement, the test result gained in accordance with SH/T 0689 shall prevail. When adopting the test method specified in GB/T 11140, methanol (analytical reagent) is adopted as solvent to prepare reference solution to prevent error due to large difference of carbon hydrogen ratio.
e In the case of disagreement, the test result gained by the method in Annex C shall prevail.
f In the case of disagreement, the test result gained by the method in ASTM E203 shall prevail.
g The manganese content is referred to the total content of manganese existing in Methyl-cyclopentadienyl-Manganese-Tricarbony (MMT). Manganese-containing additive of other kinds must not be added artificially into gasoline.
