This standard specifies the equipment, specimen, test procedures, calculation, test results and test report for determining the water absorption of fiber reinforced plastics under given dimensions, temperature and immersion time.
This standard is applicable to determine the water absorption of fiber reinforced plastics, where the results are only used for comparison rather than indication of the possible maximum water absorption. Only specimens with same dimensions and possibly same physical conditions can be subject to comparison of water absorption.
The immersion temperatures of the two methods specified in this standard are 23℃ and boiling temperature respectively. Fiber reinforced plastics that may be softened under boiling temperature so as to lose the original form can only be tested at 23℃.
Note: during referee test, the boiling temperature is limited to 100℃±2℃.
