High density polyethylene geomembrane for landfills
1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, test frequency, marking, labeling, packaging, transportation and storage of HDPE geomembrane for landfills.
This standard is applicable to the HDPE geomembrane produced by using medium (high) density polyethylene resin as the main raw material and adding various additives, which is used in seepage control and closure in landfills.

3 Terms and definitions
3.1
geomembrane
waterproof barrier material using polymer as primary raw material, such as polyethylene (PE) geomembrane, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) geomembrane, chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) geomembrane and various composite geomembranes
3.2
high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane
geomembrane made from medium (high) density polyethylene resin with a density of 0.94 g/cm3 or higher
3.3
smooth geomembrane
geomembrane with smooth and flat appearance on both sides
3.4
textured geomembrane
geomembrane manufactured by specific processes to present uniform coarse appearance on one side or both sides
3.5
tensile strength
maximum tensile stress (kN/m) per unit width applied on a specimen until it breaks during a tensile test
3.6
tensile break stress
tensile stress at break of a specimen
3.7
tensile yield stress
stress at the tensile stress-strain yield point
3.8
offset yield stress
stress generated when the stress-strain curve deviates from linearity and reaches a specified strain percentage (offset)
3.9
elongation at break
ratio of the increase of the distance between markings to the initial marked distance, at break under the action of tensile force, in percentage
3.10
tensile stress-strain curve
graph drawn through corresponding values of stress and strain; usually, the stress is considered as the ordinate and the strain value as the abscissa
