3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
solid color paints
paint that does not contain effect pigments such as metal or pearl.
3.2
base coats
paint on the surface of which clear coat is required.
3.3
solid color paints/monocoats
paint on the surface of which clear coat is not required
3.4
primer surfacer
paint applied between the base coating and the surface coating among multiple coatings.
3.5
clear coat
varnish applied on the base coat and finish coat to form a protective decoration coating.
3.6
application solid
the solid by weight of the coating under construction application conditions.
4 Classification
This standard classifies high solid solvent borne automotive coatings into primer surfacer and finish coat, the latter of which is divided into solid color paints, solid base coats, metallic base coats and clear coats.
