The main contents of this Specification include instrumentation power supply range and load level, quality indexes of instrument power supply, configuration of AC power supply for instruments, design of instrument power supply system and selections of power equipment and wiring of power supply system.
This specification is a revision of SH/T 3082-2003 Design code for instrument power supply in petrochemical industry, with the main technical contents revised as follows:

Design specification for instrumentation power supply in petrochemical industry
1 Scope
This Specification specifies the design principles and basic requirements of power supply range, load level, power supply quality, configuration scheme, design, selection of power equipment and wiring of power supply system.
This Specification is applicable to the engineering design for power supply system of instrument and control system in petrochemical engineering and in new construction, extension and renovation of enterprises using coal as raw materials to prepare oil and chemical products.

3 Terms and abbreviations
For the purposes of this Specification, the following terms and abbreviations apply.
3.1 Terms

uninterruptible power supply
power supply device composed of rectifier, inverter and DC storage battery, which is capable of providing power meeting the specification of AC power supply and meets the limit of momentary power failure

power capacity
rated capacity for power supply outputting power, with the capacity of DC power supply usually expressed in amperes (A) of output current, and that of AC power supply expressed in volt-ampere (VA) or kilovolt-ampere (kVA)

momentary power failure
short time (millisecond-level) interruption of power supply during power switching
3.1.4
momentary voltage drop
short time (millisecond level) voltage drop caused by power switching process

power-on surge condition
current increase for a short time when the instrument system is turned on

ripple voltage
percentage of the ratio of the total AC component (peak-to-peak value) of the output voltage to the average voltage

circuit-breaker
mechanical switching device that can switch on, carry and break the current under normal circuit conditions, and also switch on, carry for a certain time and break the current under specified abnormal conditions such as short circuit

4 Instrument power supply range and load level
4.1 Instrument power supply range
4.1.1 Instrument and control system power supply should cover:
a) process control system (DCS, PLC, FCS, SCADA, etc.);
b) safety instrumented system (SIS);
c) compressor control system (CCS);
d) machinery monitoring system (MMS);
e) gas detection system (GDS);
f) process analyzer system (PAS);
g) electronic instruments installed in the cabinet room and control room;
h) on-site detection and alarm instrument and actuators.
4.1.2 The power supply of the auxiliary facilities of instrument should include:
a) Power supply for lighting and ventilation equipment (exhaust fan) in the instrument panel (cabinet), and power socket for instrument maintenance and repair, etc.;
b) Power supply for lighting, ventilation and power distribution of on-line analysis instrument room, and the electric tracing of sampling line/pretreatment system/sample recovery system;
c) Electric tracing of field instruments and measuring pipes.
4.2 Load classification
According to the importance of the electrical loads in the production process and the reliability and continuity requirements of the power supply, the electrical loads of the production equipment shall be divided into the following types:
a) Class I loads: electrical loads of production equipment that will lead to the disruption of critical continuous production processes and cause significant economic losses when subjected to a sudden interruption of power supply and will take a long time to resume production after power supply is restored, as well as the electrical loads of the public works for such equipment;
b) Particularly important loads among Class I loads: Class I loads whose power supply is not allowed to be cut off in case of a sudden interruption of power supply so as to ensure safety shutdown and avoid explosions, fires, poisoning, personal injury or death and damage to critical equipment, or, in case of an accident, to deal with it in a timely manner, prevent the escalation of the accident, protect critical equipment, rescue and evacuate staffs, etc.
c) Class II loads: electrical loads of production equipment that will cause large economic losses after a sudden interruption of power supply and take a long time to resume normal production after power supply is restored, as well as the electrical loads of the public works for such equipment;
d) Class III loads: all electrical loads other than Class I loads and Class II loads.
4.2.1 The power supply for instrument and control system belongs to particularly important loads among Class I loads, for which UPS shall be adopted.
4.2.2 The power supply for the auxiliary facilities of instruments belongs to Class III loads, for which GPS should be adopted.
