This document is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.
This document replaces JB/T 4736-2002 Reinforcing pad, and the following main technical changes have been made with respect to JB/T 4736-2002:
a) The application scope of reinforcing pads has been modified;
b) The materials for the reinforcing pad have been added and requirements have been made for the materials added;
c) The requirements for the fabrication and inspection of reinforcing pads made of non-ferrous metal materials have been added;
d) Annex C "Density of materials commonly used for reinforcing pads" has been added.
This document was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of SAC/TC 262 National Technical Committee on Boilers and Pressure Vessels of Standardization Administration of China.
The previous editions of this document are as follows:
——JB/T 4736-1995;
——JB/T 4736-2002;
——This is the second revision.
Reinforcing pad
1 Scope
1.1 This document specifies the requirements for materials, types, and dimensions, as well as fabrication and inspection of reinforcing pads for the reinforcement of openings in the shells of pressure vessels.
1.2 The reinforcing pads specified in this document are used for structures where the openings in the shell of the pressure vessel are reinforced with reinforcing pads, and the structure with reinforcing pads for reinforcement shall be selected in accordance with those specified in GB/T 150.3.
1.3 This document is not recommended for vessels made of chromium-molybdenum steel, nor is it recommended for vessels that are designed to store substances with extreme or high toxicity hazards.
1.4 This document is not applicable to vessels that are subjected to fatigue loads.

4 Types and dimensions
4.1 Bevel type
4.1.1 According to the requirements for the welded joint structure of the reinforcing pad, the bevel of the reinforcing pad can be divided into Types A, B, C, D, and E (see Figure 1). In addition to the types shown in Figure 1, the designers may customize the bevel type of the reinforcing pad according to the structural requirements.
Figure 1 Bevel types for reinforcing pads
4.1.2 The applicable conditions for different types of bevels are as follows:
a) Type A is applicable to fillet welded structures where the shell is internally beveled;
b) Type B is applicable to partial-penetration structures where the shell is internally beveled;
c) Type C is applicable to full-penetration structures where the shell is externally beveled;
d) Type D is applicable to full-penetration structures where the shell is internally beveled;
e) Type E is applicable to full-penetration structures where the shell is internally beveled.
4.2 Dimensions
For steel reinforcing pads, it's advised to determine both their dimension series and weights as per Annex A, Table A.1. For reinforcing pads made of non-ferrous metals, their dimension series shall be determined with reference to Table A.1, with their weights converted based on the densities of the materials selected.
