This is Part 3 of GJB 150, which replaces GJB 150.3-1986 Environmental test methods for military equipments - High temperature test.
The following main changes have been made with respect to GJB 150.3-1986 (the previous edition):
a) the Clause “Test conditions" in GJB 150.3-86 is deleted, and the tailoring guidelines for determining test methods, test sequences, test procedures and test conditions are added;
b) the requirements for test information are added;
c) cycle test procedures are added;
d) preliminary steps and inspection steps before test are added;
e) the processing method for test interruption is changed;
f) the requirements for temperature rate of change of test chamber are changed;
g) the measurement requirements for temperature response of the test piece are added;
h) test result analysis is added.
This part was proposed by the Electronic Information Base Department of the General Armaments Department of the PLA.

Laboratory environmental test methods for military materiel - Part 3: High temperature test
1 Scope
This part specifies the purpose and application, tailoring guidelines, information requirements, test requirements, test process and result analysis of high temperature test carried out in military materiel laboratory.
This part is applicable to the high temperature test for military materiel.

3 Purpose and application
3.1 Purpose
This test is intended to obtain relevant data to evaluate the influence of high temperature conditions on the safety, integrity and performance of materiel.
3.2 Application
This test is applicable to the evaluation of materiel used in high temperature environment.
3.3 Restriction
This test is only applicable to evaluation on the heat effect with relatively short time (months rather than years) and uniform heat distribution on the whole test piece, but generally not applicable to:
a) Evaluation on the effect of performance deterioration with time during long-term stable exposure to high temperature (storage or operate) (because such case may include some superimposed effects). The deterioration effect caused by high temperature should be evaluated by nature environmental test.
b) Evaluation on the heat effect caused by solar radiation, because solar radiation will produce obvious temperature gradient on materiel. The direct solar radiation effect shall be evaluated by procedure I specified in GJB 150.7A-2009.
c) Evaluation on the photochemical effect (photochemical effect is evaluated by procedure II specified in GJB 150.7A-2009).
d) Evaluation on the aerodynamic heating effect.
4 Tailoring guidelines
4.1 Selection of test methods
4.1.1 General
Analyze the requirements of relevant technical documents, apply the results obtained by implementing GJB 4239 in the ordering process of materiel (products), determine the stage of high temperature environment in the service life of materiel, and determine whether this test is necessary according to the following environmental effects. When it is necessary to carried out this test through determination and the same test piece is used for this test and other environmental tests, the sequence of this test and other tests shall also be determined.
4.1.2 Environmental effects
High temperature may change the physical performances or dimensions of materials used for materiel, thus the performance of materiel will be temporarily or permanently degraded. Typical problems that may occur under high temperature conditions related to the materiel under test are listed below:
a) firm seizing of parts and components due to inconsistent expansion of different materials;
b) decreasing of lubricating capacity at the joint due to viscosity lowering and flow-out of lubricant;
c) all-around or directional change of material dimension;
d) mechanical failure or integrity damage caused by deformation, occlusion and failure of packaging material, gasket, seal washer, bearing and shaft;
e) permanent deformation of gasket;
f) damage of outer cover and sealing strip;
g) change in resistance value of fixed resistor;
h) change in stability of electronic circuits caused by different temperature gradients and inconsistent expansion of different materials;
i) overheating of transformer and electromechanical components;
j) change in the pull-in/release range of relay and magnetomotive or thermo-motive devices;
k) shortening of service life;
l) separation of solid pill or grain;
m) generation of high pressure in seal shells (cannonball, bomb, etc.);
n) accelerated combustion of explosives or propellants;
o) expansion of poured explosive in its shell;
p) melting and leakage of explosive;
q) fading, dissociating or cracking of organic materials;
r) deflation of composite materials.
4.1.3 Selection of test sequence
4.1.3.1 General requirements
See GJB 150.1A-2009, 3.6.
4.1.3.2 Special requirements
There are at least two principles that can be followed to determine the test sequence:
a) Saving service life. Firstly, an environmental stress, which will cause the minimum damage to the test piece, is applied to the test piece, so that the test piece is able to be subjected to more test items. Therefore, this test shall be carried out at the early stage of the test sequence.
b) The applied environment shall be able to display the superimposed effect to the maximum extent. Therefore, this test shall be carried out after mechanical environmental tests such as vibration and shock tests.
Note: This test will also have a significant influence on the results of low pressure test of sealed products, see 4.1.2d)~ f).
