This standard replaces the GB/T 8939-2008 Sanitary absorbent pads (including pantiliner) in whole. The following deviations have been made with respect to the GB/T 8939-2008.
——The standard's title has been modified;
——The product categorization has been deleted;
——The wicking rate has been used to replace the indicator of permeation amount, and the test method of wicking rate has been added (see 3.1, 4.5, and 4.1 in the 2008 edition);
——The deviation requirement have been modified. The moisture content has been changed to the moisture content upon delivery (see 3.1, 4.2, and 4.1, 4.2 in the 2008 edition);
——The indicators of formaldehyde content, migratable fluorescent substances and the corresponding test methods have been added (see 3.1, 3.2, 4.8 and 4.9);
——The adhesion of positioning adhesive has been changed to the peel adhesion of positioning adhesive. It has been changed from a reference indicator to an assessment indicator, and the test method has been modified (see 3.1, 3.2, 4.11, and 4.1, 5.8 in the 2008 edition);
——The test methods of the full length deviation, the pad weight deviation and the pH have been modified (see 4.2, 4.3, 4.6, and 5.2, 5.5 in the 2008 edition);
——The requirements for the raw materials and the shelf life have been added (see 3.4, 6.2).
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this standard may be the subject of patent rights. The issuing body of this document shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This standard was prepared by SAC/TC 141 National Paper Industry Standardization Technical Committee.
The previous editions of GB/T 8939 are as follows:
——GB 8939-1999, GB/T 8939-2008.
Sanitary absorbent pads (panty liner)
1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirement, the test method, the inspection rule, the sign, packaging, transportation and storage of sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners).
This standard is applicable to the sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners) for women composed of a surface layer, an internal absorption layer (containing fluff pulps and/or super-absorbent polymer) and a leak proof backsheet, with processed professionally and formed mechanically.

b The moisture content upon delivery is only used as outgoing test before dispatch from factory and is not used as other forms of test items.
3.3 The hygienic requirement of sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners) shall be as specified in GB 15979.
3.4 Any waste recycled material shall not be used as the raw material for sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners). The products shall be clean without contamination, damages and any foreign matters inside. For the raw material used for sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners): the fluff pulp shall be as specified in GB/T 21331. the superabsorbent polymer shall be as specified in GB/T 22875. the release paper shall be as specified in GB/T 27731. the absorption tissue paper shall be as specified in QB/T 4508, the air-laid shall be as specified in GB/T 24292. and the topsheets shall be as specified in GB/T 30133.
3.5 Sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners) shall be packaged independently. Package material which is in contact with products directly shall not use recycled waste materials.
3.6 Both the edges of the sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners) shall be firmly sealed, and there shall not be broken during the use.
3.7 Sanitary absorbent pads (panty liners) shall be no movement while in use, no damage to the underwear, and no evident residue when it is peeled off.
3.8 The release paper of a sanitary absorbent pads shall not be peeled off by itself and it shall be able to be completely torn off naturally.
4 Test method
4.1 Conditioning
While testing the full length deviation, pad weight deviation, absorption ratio, wicking rate, peel adhesion of positioning adhesive, the test pieces shall be conditioned for at least 4 h under the standard atmospheric condition as specified in GB/T 10739, and the test shall also be performed un¬der such conditions.
4.2 Full length deviation
Measure the full length of test piece using a ruler (measure the spacing between the longest ends of the test piece) accurate to 1 mm. Measure 6 test pieces for each size sample. The 6 test pieces shall be from at least two different sales packages and at least two test pieces shall be taken from a same package. Calculate the average for the 6 pieces, and the full length deviation is obtained according to the Formula (1) and express the result to the integer.
(1)
Note: If a sales package contains only one piece, take 6 packages for the test.
4.3 Pad weight deviation
Weigh the net weight (including the release paper) of 6 test pieces using a balance with a scale division of 0.01 g. The 6 test pieces shall be selected from at least two different sales packages, and at least two test pieces shall be taken from a same package. The maximum, the minimum and the average values for the 6 pieces are used for the pad weight deviation calculation according to the Formula (2) and Formula (3), and express the results to the integer.
(2)
(3)
Note: If a sales package contains only one piece, take 6 packages for the test.
4.4 Absorption ratio
Take one test piece, remove the release paper, cut the wings appropriately, and weigh the mass (before absorption) of the test piece using a balance with a scale division of 0.01 g. Hold one end of the test piece with a clamp, and keep the clamp to be vertical to the test piece along the longitudinal side. The absorption layer shall not be clamped. Immerse the test piece together with the clamp into distilled water or deionized water at (23±1) ℃ with the use side facing upward. Gently press the test piece and keep it to be completely immersed into the water for 60 s. Take the clamp up to allow the test piece to be lifted completely out of the water. Remove the clamp after hanging the test piece vertically for 90 s. Weigh the mass (after absorption) of the test piece and calculate the absorption ratio according to the Formula (4). Take 5 test pieces and repeat the same test, take the average of 5 test values and express the final result to one decimal place.
