Excitation systems for synchronous machines — Part 4: Technical requirements of excitation systems for medium and small synchronous machines
1 Scope
This document specifies the general requirements, service conditions, performance requirements of excitation systems for synchronous generators, performance requirements of excitation systems for synchronous machines, test rules, completeness of equipment, marking, packaging, transportation and storage, as well as mass production and quality assurance of excitation systems for medium and small synchronous machines.
This document is applicable to the design and manufacture of 50Hz and 60Hz excitation systems for synchronous machines in the following ranges:
— hydraulic generators below 10 000 kW;
— turbine-generators below 6 000 kW;
— internal combustion generators up to 3 200 kW;
— synchronous machines below 10 000 kW.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 7409.1-2008 and the following apply.
3.1
excitation system voltage time response
output voltage, expressed as a function of time, of excitation system under specified conditions
3.2
excitation system nominal response
ratio of excitation system output voltage growth rate to the rated field voltage as determined by the excitation system nominal response curve
Note: The excitation system output voltage growth rate is the growth rate of linear ac from the initial point of excitation system voltage time response (see Figure 1), and the area abc increased according to the first 0.5s (or otherwise specified) is the same as the area abd increased by the actual curve. See Equations (1) and (2):
Where,
P — the excitation system output voltage growth rate, in volts per second (V/s);
△UE — the increase of voltage, in volts (V);
VE — the excitation system nominal response, in per second (s-1);
UfN — the rated field voltage, in volts (V).
4 General requirements
In addition to meet the requirements of this document, excitation systems shall meet the requirements of GB/T 755. Excitation systems for synchronous machines shall also meet the requirements of GB/T 3797-2016.
