This method is applicable to measure the sulfur content in heavy petroleum products such as the lubricating oil and heavy fuel oil, etc. Where this method is carried out, the sample should be burnt in the oxygen bomb; then the distilled water shall be used to wash the sample out, after which the barium chloride shall be adopted to precipitate in order to measure the sulfur content in the sample.
I Instrument, Material and Reagent
1. Instruments and Materials
(1) Calorimeter oxygen bombs and its accessories (see the figure below): the volume of oxygen bomb is 250~500mL.
1-cylinder body; 2-protrusion; 3-male thread; 4- bomb cover; 5-conductive pin; 6-7-needle valve; 8-intake tube; 9-ringlet; 10-slotting auger
(2) Ceramic crucible: dwarf form, #4.
(3) Water bath heating shall be adopted.
(4) Electric furnace.
(5) Beaker: 300~500mL.
(6) Glass funnel: with an angle of 60° and a diameter of 50~65mm.
(7) Wash bottle: 500 or 1000 mL.
(8) Firing cable: iron wire, nickel alloy wire or copper wire with a diameter no larger than 0.2mm and shall be cut into equal line segments of which the length shall be 60~120mm (The specific length shall be determined according to the structure of interior accessories of the oxygen bomb and the firing method).
(9) Bottled compressed oxygen.
