5 Emergency shower
5.1 Structure
The main structure of emergency shower includes control valve, shower head and valve activator, as shown in Figure 1.
Dimensions in millimeters
Figure 1 Emergency shower
5.2 Technical requirements
5.2.1 General requirements
5.2.1.1 When the emergency shower is properly connected to the flushing fluid supply source and the valve is closed, there shall be no visible leakage at the connection position.
5.2.1.2 Flushing fluid shall be provided at a flow rate of at least 76 L/min for at least 15 min consecutively.
5.2.1.3 The height of the nozzle shall be between 2 080 mm and 2 440 mm, which is calculated from the plane where the user stands.
5.2.1.4 In the place 1 520 mm away from the user's standing plane, the minimum diameter of the shower range shall be 510 mm, and the dispersion form of the flushing fluid shall always be consistent and fully dispersed. The minimum distance between the center of shower range and any obstacle shall be 410 mm.
5.2.1.5 The materials used shall not contaminate the flushing fluid, and shall meet the national standards for drinking water transmission and distribution.
5.2.1.6 The method of design, manufacture and installation shall be such that the emergency shower can be used immediately when starting, without the user's manual operation.
5.2.2 Control valve
5.2.2.1 Once the valve is opened, it shall always be open except when the user intentionally closes it. The valve shall be corrosion-resistant and easy to operate, and can be fully opened within 1 s.
5.2.2.2 The height of the valve activator to the standing plane of the user shall not exceed 1 730 mm.
5.2.2.3 The materials used for the control valve shall not contaminate the flushing fluid.
5.2.3 Emergency shower room
The minimum distance between the center of shower range and any obstacle shall be 410 mm. The flushing fluid shall be fully dispersed within this range. The emergency shower room, at least, shall be provided with a barrier-free space with a minimum area of 900 mm in diameter.
5.3 Test methods
5.3.1 Connect the equipment to the supply source of flushing fluid under the minimum flow pressure of 0.2 MPa.
5.3.2 Flowmeter or other methods are used to measure the flow of flushing fluid. When the flowmeter is used, connect the flowmeter to the equipment. The measuring unit of the flowmeter is liters.
5.3.3 When the valve is closed, visually check the connecting parts for leakage.
5.3.4 Open the valve of the equipment, measure the opening time of the valve by a stopwatch or other methods, and visually check whether the valve is always open.
5.3.5 Measure the flushing fluid flow for 15 min, record it once every 3 min and take the minimum value.
5.3.6 Measure the height of the nozzle from the plane where the user stands.
5.3.7 Measure the diameter of shower range at a distance of 1 520 mm from the user's standing plane.
5.3.8 Visually check whether the dispersion form of flushing fluid is consistent and fully dispersed.
5.3.9 Measure the distance between the center of shower range and any obstacle, and take the minimum value.
5.3.10 Measure the height of valve activator, and calculate from the plane where the user stands.
5.3.11 Visually check flushing fluid for turbidity, impurities or other visible objects and smell disinfectant liquid for any odor or peculiar smell.
5.3.12 Visually check whether the emergency shower can be used without manual operation once started.
6 Eyewash
6.1 Structure
The main structure of the eyewash includes flushing fluid pipeline, nozzle, control valve and valve activator, as shown in Figure 2.
Dimensions in millimeters
Figure 2 Eyewash
6.2 Technical requirements
6.2.1 General requirements
6.2.1.1 When the eyewash is properly connected to the flushing fluid supply source and the valve is closed, there shall be no visible leakage at the connection position.
6.2.1.2 It shall be ensured that the flushing fluid can maintain a low flow rate to flush the eyes without causing damage to the eyes.
6.2.1.3 The design and installation shall not harm users.
6.2.1.4 The nozzle shall be protected from air pollutants. When measures are taken to protect the nozzle, it shall be ensured that the user does not need to remove the protective device when opening the eyewash.
6.2.1.5 The materials used shall not contaminate the flushing fluid, and shall meet the national standards for drinking water transmission and distribution.
6.2.1.6 The method of design, manufacture and installation shall be such that the eyewash can be used immediately when starting, without the user's manual operation.
6.2.1.7 The nozzle shall be located at least 838 mm from the horizontal plane where the user stands, but not more than 1 143 mm, and at least 153 mm from the wall or the nearest obstacle.
6.2.1.8 Flushing fluid shall be provided at a flow rate of at least 1.5 L/min and maintained for at least 15 min.
6.2.1.9 Sufficient space shall be provided for the user to open the eyelids by hand during eye flushing.
6.2.1.10 It shall be able to supply flushing fluid to both eyes at the same time. Make a standard ruler for measuring the pattern of eyewash water flow. The minimum length of the standard ruler is 100 mm, and there are two groups of parallel lines with equal distance distributed symmetrically according to the center. The inner position line shall be 32 mm bisection and the outer position line shall be 82.5 mm bisection. Place the standard ruler in the eyewash water flow, and the flushing fluid shall be contained in the area line between the inside and outside of the standard ruler located less than 200 mm above the eyewash nozzle. See Figure 3 for a typical eyewash standard ruler.
