1 Scope
This standard specifies the rated value, design and structure, tests, etc., of high-voltage direct current by-pass switches.
This standard is applicable to indoors/outdoors by-pass switches operating in HVDC transmission systems with voltage levels of ±800 kV and below.
This standard is also applicable to the operating mechanism and auxiliary equipment of by-pass switches.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 1984-2003, GB/T 2900.20-1994, GB/T 11022-1999 and the following apply.
3.1
switchgear and controlgear
[GB/T 11022-1999, definition 3.1.1]
3.2
high-voltage direct current (HVDC) by-pass switch
mechanical power switchgear bridged between one or more converter bridge DC terminals to short-circuit the converter bridge and to transfer the current to the converter valve once such bridge is quitting running and put into operation respectively
See BPS1~BPS8 in Figure 1 for the positions of HVDC by-pass switches in a DC system.
Note: It is revised from definition 6.20 in GB/T 13498-2007.
