a) The classification, code and marking of product are deleted (see Clause 3 of Edition 2009);
b) The requirements for product are deleted (see Clause 4 of Edition 2009);
c) The method for determination of surface tension is added (see 4.8);
d) The standards used to determine apparent density, total content of active matter, total content of phosphorus pentoxide and content of free alkali are modified (see 4.3 ~ 4.6; 5.3 ~ 5.6 of Edition 2009);
e) The determination of tetrapropylene alkylbenzene sulfonate and alkylphenol polyoxyethylene and the determination of biodegradability of surface active agent are deleted (see 5.10 and 5.11 of Edition 2009);
f) The inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage of products are deleted (see Clause 6 and Clause 7 of Edition 2009).
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. The issuing body of this document shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

The previous editions of this document and documents replaced by this document are as follows:
——GB/T 13171-1991 was issued in 1991 as the first edition, then it was revised for the first time in 2004, and then revised for the second time in 2009 and published in several parts. This part corresponds to GB/T 13171.2-2009;
——This is the third revision.
Introduction
In consideration of environmental protection and social orientation, in this revision, the requirements for physical and chemical performance index, requirements for service performance index, test methods, inspection rules and product marking, packaging, transport and storage in GB/T 13171.1-2009 Laundry powders (phosphorous) and GB/T 13171.2-2009 Laundry powders (phosphate free) are integrated respectively, and after integration, GB/T 13171 consists of the following two parts.
——Part 1: Technical requirements, which aims to establish classification and technical requirements for laundry powders.
——Part 2: Test method, which aims to establish corresponding test methods for the technical requirements of laundry powders.
Laundry powder products are developing rapidly in pursuing high technology (high efficiency, multifunction, safe and convenient use, energy and water saving, etc.) and more adaptive to consumer demand. Their varieties, forms and specifications change rapidly, while the test methods for them do not change much. In this revision, the standard is divided into two parts: technical requirements and test method, which is conducive for relevant contents to be revised in time with the change of product quality and advancement of market technology in the future, thus, giving play to the leading role of the standard and promoting the development of the industry.
Laundry powders - Part 2: Test method
1 Scope
This document specifies the test methods for physical and chemical indexes and service performance of laundry powders.
This document is applicable to laundry powders made from surface active agents and other additives.

4 Test methods
4.1 General provisions
Unless otherwise specified, only analytical reagents and water of Grade III or superior complying with GB/T 6682 shall be used in the analysis.
Split the laundry powder samples in the laboratory according to the provisions of Clause 4 of GB/T 13173-2021.
4.2 Appearance
Visually observe the appearance of the sample under indirect light. Pour the product on a white paper and observe it, if there are lumps, press them gently with hand, if they are loose, the product shall be deemed as acceptable.
4.3 Apparent density
Determine it using the method specified in Clause 13 of GB/T 13173-2021.
4.4 Total content of active matter
Determine it according to the provisions of Clause 7 of GB/T 13173-2021.
For general inspection, Method A shall be used, if hydrotropic solvent is not required to be included in the test result, Method B shall be used.
The content of non-ionic surface active agent shall be determined according to the provisions of Clause 8 of GB/T 13173-2021.
4.5 Total content of phosphorus pentoxide
Determine it using the phosphomolybdate blue spectrophotometry method specified in Clause 6 of GB/T 13173-2021, and take the quinoline phosphomolybdate gravimetric method as the arbitration method for laundry powders (phosphorous).
4.6 Content of free alkali
Determine it according to the provisions of Clause 20 of GB/T 13173-2021.
4.7 pH value
Prepare the specimen solution according to those specified in Clause 5 of GB/T 13171.1-2022, namely, weigh 0.1 g or 0.05 g of specimen, accurate to 0.001 g, and then add 100mL of water into it, stir it electromagnetically so that it can be fully dissolved, stir it slowly and keep it at 25℃, and then determine its pH value according to those specified in GB/T 6368.
