Foot protection - Safety footwear
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classifications, styles and marking, basic requirements, protective performance, additional requirements, identification and information of safety footwear that shall be provided by the manufacturer.
This standard is applicable to footwear that protects the wearer's feet from hazards or safety in working area.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following definitions and terms apply.

safety footwear
footwear that protect the wearer from accidental injuries, have protective features and provide protection in working areas
Note 1: It does not include boots for negative firefighting operations, footwear for chain sawing, footwear against chemicals, footwear against molten metal and splash of molten metal, and footwear for motorcycle riders.
Note 2: Safety footwear components are illustrated in Figure 1, Figure 2 and Figure 3.

polymeric materials
high molecular weight compound formed by repeatedly connecting structural units (monomers) through covalent bonds
Example: polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

insole
fixed sole component that is usually connected to the upper during footwear production
3.6
insock
movable or fixed footwear part that covers part or all of the insole
3.7
lining
material covering the inner surface of the upper
Note 1: The wearer's feet are in direct contact with the lining.
Note 2: At the opening of the front upper with the toecap, or external material is sewn on the upper to form a bagged toecap, and the material under toecap is the lining.

vamp lining
material covering the inner surface of the front part of the upper

quarter lining
material covering the inner surface of the rear side of the upper

cleat(s)
convex part of the outer surface of the sole

rigid outsole
sole that cannot bend to 45° at 30N load when the whole shoe is tested according to 8.4.1 in GB/T 20991-2007

cellular outsole
outsole with density of 0.9 g/cm3 or less and with a porous structure that can be seen under a 10X magnifier
3.11
penetration-resistant insert
a shoe part placed in a sole assembly to prevent penetration
3.12
toecap
a shoe part installed in footwear to protect the toes of a wearer from the impact and crushing of heavy objects
3.13
seat region
rear part of footwear (upper and sole), the rear 10% area of the whole shoe length
3.14
hybrid foot wear
Class II footwear with other materials on the upper part of the upper
