1.0.1 The Guidelines have been prepared to improve the technical level of highway cement concrete pavement construction and guarantee the construction quality of cement concrete pavement.
1.0.2 The Guidelines is applicable to the construction of cement concrete pavement works of all highway classes.
1.0.3 The raw materials and concrete mix proportion adopted shall meet the quality requirements specified in the Guidelines and of stable performance and the selected construction process, and machinery and equipment concerned shall meet the traffic load rating as required by this pavement work, shall be adopted.
1.0.4 The quality assurance system shall run through the whole construction process and define the quality accountabilities of full staff, and enhance the quality control and management of each process to guarantee the work quality.
1.0.5 For the construction of cement concrete pavement, a sound safety production management system and emergency plan shall be established to define the safety accountability and strictly enforce safe operation rules, guarantee the occupational health of construction personnel and ensure construction safety.
1.0.6 During the construction, optimal land utilization, reduction of energy and material consumptions and environmental protection are important.
1.0.7 The construction cement concrete pavement shall adopt new technique, new material, new equipment and new process aggressively and appropriately.
1.0.8 The construction of cement concrete pavement shall meet the requirements of not only the Guidelines but also current relevant national and industrial standards.
2 Terminology
2.0.1 Recycled aggregate
Coarse aggregate made from structural concrete by mechanical crushing and sieving.
2.0.2 Chopped basalt fiber
A basalt fiber product made from continuous basalt fiber by chopping.
2.0.3 Synthetic fiber
Chemical fiber made from synthetic polymer compound. The common varieties are polyacrylonitrile, polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol, polypropylene fiber, etc.
2.0.4 Silicone joint sealant material
Mono-component or multi-component joint sealer that mainly is made from polysiloxane polymer and cures at normal temperature.
2.0.5 Sealing membrane
The flexible shallow layer of isolation and anti-scour functions which is located on semirigid upper base surface. It may adopt asphalt surface treatment and laying-type sealing membranes may adopt full laying with watertight membrane or asphalt felt.
2.0.6 Vibrating viscosity coefficient
The index that characterizes the friction resistance to the relative movement of mass point, e.g. coarse and fine aggregates, bubble, in concrete mixture, under the action of specific vibration energy. It is used to determine the concrete mixture’s tendency of compaction by vibration.
2.0.7 Filling volume ratio
The volume ratio of coarse aggregate to concrete, expressed in percentage.
2.0.8 Fiber reinforced concrete pavement
Cement concrete pavement made from cement concrete added with proper amounts of steel fiber, basalt fiber or synthetic fiber.
2.0.9 Slipform paving
The construction process in which slipform paver is adopted to pave cement concrete pavement. It is characterized by that no fixing forms are set up and construction processes, e.g. distribution, spreading, vibratory compaction, extrusion molding, plastering and finishing, are continuously completed while the paver is traveling.
2.0.10 Paving with vibrator and triple-roller-tube combination
The construction process in which vibrator and triple-roller leveler are used in combination for paving cement concrete pavement. It is characterized by fixed forms are required at edges and the formwork is also used as the rail for the triple-roller leveler.
2.0.11 Roller compacted concrete pavement paving
The construction process in which cement concrete pavement are formed by rolling with roller. It is characterized by paving with highly harsh cement concrete, asphalt concrete or base paver, and vibration rolling and compaction with roller.
2.0.12 Pre-located steel guesses method
Construction method for expansion joint dowel, contraction joint dowel and tie bar gusset that are pre-installed and fixed on the top surface of base course and meet the required machining precision.
2.0.13 Concrete bricks pavement
Pavement paved with prefabricated cement concrete block for carriage way.
2.0.14 Concrete road curb
The solid strip concrete block used to confine the margins of cement concrete block pavement.
3 Technical Requirements for Raw Materials
3.1 Cement
3.1.1 The cement concrete for highway pavements of extremely heavy, extra heavy and heavy traffic load grades shall adopt the portland cement for road, portland cement and ordinary portland cement that are produced; that for those of medium and light traffic load grades may adopt portland blast furnace slag cement. Construction at high temperature period should adopt ordinary type cement and that at low temperature period should adopt early-strength type cement.
3.1.2 The technical requirements for the cement used for pavement cement concrete shall meet the requirements of current "Portland Cement for Road" (GB 13693) or "Common Portland Cement" (GB 175). Moreover, the rupture strength and compression strength measured at any age shall meet those specified in 3.1.2.
