This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 4892-2008 Dimensions of rigid rectangular packages - Transport packages.
The following main changes have been made with respect to GB/T 4892-2008:
——The clause “Terms and definitions” is added (see Clause 3);
——“Clause 3 Principle” of GB/T 4892-2008 is changed to “Clause 4 Calculation principle for the plan dimensions of transport packages” (see Clause 4; Clause 3 of Edition 2008);
——The requirement that the plan dimensions of transport packages shall be obtained by arranging the modular dimensions of transport packages is added (see Clause 4);
——The modular dimension of transport package of 600mm×500mm is added (see Clause 5);
——The contents of Clause 5 of GB/T 4892-2008 are incorporated into Table 1 of Clause 6 (see Clause 6; Clause 5 of Edition 2008);
——"Multiples" under No. 1 of Table 1 in Clause 6 of GB/T 4892-2008 is changed to "plan dimension of transport package obtained by arranging the modular dimension of transport package" (see Clause 6; Clause 6 of Edition 2008);
——The plan dimension of 1 200mm×800mm unit load calculated from the modular dimension of transport package of 600mm×400mm is added (see Clause 6);
——The plan dimension of 1 200mm×1 000mm unit load calculated from the modular dimension of transport package of 600mm×500mm is added (see Clause 6).
This standard has been redrafted and modified in relation to ISO 3394:2012 Packaging - Complete, filled transport packages and unit loads - Dimensions of rigid rectangular packages.
The main technical deviations with respect to ISO 3394:2012 and their justifications are as follows:
——The adjustments of technical changes are made for the normative references in this standard so as to adapt to the technical conditions of China. The adjustments are mainly reflected in Clause 2 "Normative references", which are shown in the following:
ISO 21067 is replaced with GB/T 4122.1;
ISO 6780 is deleted.
——The term "load bulge" is deleted as it is not involved in this standard;
——In order to keep consistency with the provisions of GB/T 4892-2008, the modular dimension specified in Clause 1 of ISO 3394:2012 is incorporated into Clause 5;
——As the modular dimension of transport package of 600mm×400mm can only be arranged to form a plan dimension of 1 200mm×1 000mm unit load, No. 3 of Table 1 in Clause 6 is changed to "plan dimension of transport package obtained by arranging the modular dimension of transport package" (see Clause 6; Clause 6 of Edition 2008);
——As the plan dimension of transport package obtained by arranging the modular dimension of transport package of 600mm×500mm into the plan dimension of 1 100mm × 1 100mm unit load cannot fully utilize plan dimension of 1 100mm×1 100mm, which does not conform to the calculation principle, the plan dimension of transport package obtained by arranging the modular dimension of transport package of 600mm×500mm into the plan dimension of 1 100mm×1 100mm unit load and its arrangement diagram are deleted (including Figure 6);
——As the arrangement of Figure 5 and Figure 7 are illustrated in Figure 2 and Figure 4 respectively, Figure 5 and Figure 7 are deleted;
——As the contents stipulated in Clause 7 are inconsistent with the name of the clause, Clause 7 is deleted and the contents are incorporated into Clause 6;
——As the stacking example given in the two figures on the right side of the informative Annex A is not the stacking example figure with the same unit load dimension formed on the second floor, the informative Annex A is deleted.
This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Packaging of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 49).
The previous editions of this standard are as follows:
——GB/T 4892-1996 and GB/T 4892-2008.
Dimensions of rigid rectangular transport packages
1 Scope
This standard specifies the calculation principle for the plan dimensions of rigid rectangular transport packages as well as the modular dimension, plan dimension and height of transport packages.
This standard is applicable to transport packages of unit load transported by road, railway and waterway. Transport packages of non-unit load can be implemented by reference to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 4122.1 and the following apply.
3.1
plan dimensions
dimensions of the rectangle defined on a horizontal surface by the four vertical planes intersecting at right angles which enclose a transport package freestanding on that surface, see Figure 1
Figure 1 Plan dimensions
4 Calculation principle for the plan dimensions of transport packages
The plan dimensions of transport packages shall be calculated by arranging the modular dimensions of transport packages or multiplying and dividing the modular dimensions of transport packages by an integer.
5 Modular dimensions of transport packages
The packaging modular dimensions of transport packages are 600mm×400mm, 600mm×500mm and 550mm×366mm.
