Performance requirements and testing methods for rear cross traffic alert system of passenger cars
1 Scope
This document specifies the performance requirements for rear cross traffic alert system of passenger cars, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document is applicable to Class M vehicles equipped with a rear cross traffic alert system.
Note: In the absence of confusion, the "rear cross traffic alert system" in this document is referred to as the "RCTA System".

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 39263 and the following apply.

rear cross traffic alert system
a system that monitors other road users approaching laterally behind the vehicle in real time when the vehicle is in reverse, and sends a warning message when there is a possible collision hazard

subject vehicle
vehicle under test equipped with RCTA system and test equipment
3.3
bicycle
a bicycle with two wheels
3.4
target
vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians approaching laterally behind the vehicle
3.4.1
target vehicle
a motor vehicle approaching laterally behind the vehicle
3.4.2
target bicycle
a bicycle approaching laterally behind the vehicle
3.4.3
target pedestrian
a pedestrian approaching laterally behind the vehicle
3.5
blocking vehicle
a vehicle parked parallel to the subject vehicle in a parking space adjacent to the subject vehicle
3.6
lateral distance
in the test vehicle coordinate system, the projected distance between the outermost edge of the body side of subject vehicle near the target (except the rearview mirror) and the outermost edge of the front end of the target (when the target is a pedestrian, it is the pedestrian centroid) perpendicular to the driving direction of subject vehicle
Note: The lateral distance between the target and subject vehicle is shown in Figure 1.

4 General requirements
4.1 Functional requirements
According to the minimum identification target, RCTA system can be divided into Type I and Type Il, which shall meet the following requirements respectively:
a) For Type I RCTA system, when the vehicle is in reverse, at least real-time monitoring of cars, motorcycles, bicycles approaching laterally behind the vehicle, and sends warning information in case of a possible collision hazard;
b) For Type II RCTA system, when the vehicle is in reverse, at least real-time monitoring of cars, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians approaching laterally behind the vehicle, and sends warning information in case of a possible collision hazard;
