Juvenile products - General requirements for tableware and feeding utensils
1 Scope
This document specifies the safety and performance requirements, test methods, identification, and packaging, transportation and storage of tableware and feeding utensils, components and materials used for juvenile feeding either independently or with the assistance of others.
This document is applicable to tableware and feeding utensils designed or intended for feeding juveniles aged 72 months or below themselves or with the assistance of others, including products or product components that are not mainly used for feeding juveniles, but have a secondary function that allows juveniles to feed themselves or be fed with the assistance of others.
This document is not applicable to:
——Packaging containers for finished food;
——Tableware and feeding utensils for medical purposes or for use under the supervision of medical staff;
——Infant feeding bottles and teats covered by GB 38995-2020;
——Soothers for babies and young children covered by GB 28482-2012;
——Disposable tableware and feeding utensils not specifically designed for juveniles;
——Packages of products and accompanying maintenance tools.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
tableware and feeding utensils
tools or containers intended for juvenile feeding (or ingesting food) or for their feeding with the assistance of others
Note: Example diagrams of tools such as chopsticks, ladles, spoons, knives and forks can be found in Figure A.1 of Annex A; and example diagrams of containers such as bowls, plates, drinking cups, chewing feeders, feeding boxes and snack boxes can be found in Figure A.2.

chewing feeder
feeding utensils made of plastic, silicone rubber or textile materials and used for infants and young children to chew, suck and swallow complementary food, which have a hollow porous biting-sucking mouthpiece for holding puree and other semi-fluid complementary food for infants and young children, and are usually provided with a handle or lifting ring for easy grasping

drinking accessory
components used with a container for juveniles to suck and eat complementary food
Examples: Drinking protrusions, and biting-sucking mouthpieces of chewing feeders.
3.4
drinking protrusion
liquid drinking accessory mounted on a container
Examples: Straws, and drinking spouts (ladles).

straw
hollow tubular drinking protrusion in contact with the mouth for sucking liquids
3.6
drinking spout
drinking protrusion, other than straw, mounted on a container for sucking liquids
3.7
tube
hollow hose mounted in a container and connected to a straw, gravity ball or tube disc to assist in sucking liquids
3.8
gravity ball
a component attached to the end of the tube that acts as a gravity guide
Note: The gravity guide is not limited to spherical shape.

tube disc
a component that connects the tube and the drinking accessory to help juveniles suck liquids

locking ring
a ring-like component for securing the drinking accessory on the container
3.11
sealing disc
a sealing component used between the container and the locking ring

handle
an auxiliary component mounted on the container for easy holding of the container
3.13
lifting ring
an auxiliary component mounted on the container for easy lifting of the container
3.14
suction pad
a component used to attach tableware and feeding utensils to other surfaces
3.15
removable component
components or assemblies that can be removed directly from tableware and feeding utensils without the use of tools
3.16
accessible
performance of a product or components of a product that can be accessed by any part in front of the shaft shoulder of accessible probe as described in GB 6675.2-2014, 5.7
3.17
can be placed in the mouth
performance of a product or components of a product that, as determined according to GB/T 40182, can be placed in the mouth of a juvenile to a certain depth and can be sucked and chewed
Note: It includes both "designed to be placed in the mouth" (e.g., drinking spout) and "may be placed in the mouth" (e.g., handle and lifting ring). An object that can only be licked by the tongue shall not be classified as "can be placed in the mouth".
4 Requirements
4.1 Overall requirements
4.1.1 The products shall not pose acute or chronic risks to human health.
4.1.2 The products that are designed to be used as a toy or have characteristics similar to toys shall meet the requirements of the relevant national standards for safety of toys.
4.1.3 The products shall be designed and manufactured in such a way as to ensure that they meet the relevant hygiene and cleanliness requirements, so as to avoid any risk of infection, disease and contamination. They shall meet the requirements of this document even after they have been washed in accordance with their characteristics and the manufacturer's washing instructions.
4.1.4 The raw materials of the products shall meet the requirements of this document and the relevant laws and regulations of the nation.
4.1.5 The food contact materials and articles shall meet the requirements of the relevant national food safety standards, and the use of additives in them shall meet the requirements of GB 9685.
4.2 General requirements
4.2.1 General
The tableware and feeding utensils shall meet the requirements of 4.2.3~4.2.11 before and after the tests stated in 5.3.
4.2.2 Appearance
All components of tableware and feeding utensils shall be tested according to 5.2.1 to ensure that they are clean and free of foreign matter, and their surfaces are smooth and free from burrs, with no gap or deformation that affects the use.
4.2.3 Sharp points
The accessible points on tableware and feeding utensils shall be tested according to 5.2.2 to ensure that they are not hazardous sharp points.
4.2.4 Sharp edges
The accessible edges on tableware and feeding utensils shall be tested according to 5.2.3 to ensure that they are not hazardous sharp edges.
